  1. Using DVD2one then nero 5 to burn as DVD-R.

Able to play the DVD with power DVD on my laptop but not on my DVD-R compatible home DVD player -- it says it can't read.

When i burn in nero i have been using the wizard: and burning as a data CD. When i start to burn it prompts me saying that this file contains several layers and ask if i want to to burn as multisession DVD. I have tried both ways and neither will play.

The final file extension is .VOB. Am i supposed to Finalize or does Nero do in automatically?

I would really appreciate any advice.

  2. I think you should be using UDF or UDF/ISO mode to burn the DVD and copy the whole video_ts folder to the DVD in order for the regular DVD player to read. There is a very good guide of burning DVD using DVD2one and nero, search the section in DVD Rip.

    Hope that helps.

Since you have nero installed I would suggest using Decryptor to burn. I have not had one single DVD work in my stand alone when burnt through nero's program. But every single one I have burned using Decryptor which uses Nero's ASPI works flawlessly.

They all play on my PC but only Decrypter's will play in my Pioneer stand alone and PS2.

  4. I had the same problem. you need to have the bup and ifo files included with the vob file. The newest version of Nero 5 will burn DVDs just fine. I also use decrypter to rip the DVD.

I tried that. I imported the whole VIDEO_TS file. My problem with nero was that I have an OEM version and having an OEM version it wouldn't let me switch to ROM mode where I could change the UDF setting.

That was some sneaky BS from NERO, I sent them a nasty email about including a worthless software with my DVD burner.

I still find it amazing that Decrypter using the NERO ASPI will burn and it will play just fine but bring the file into nero through the DVD menu will not for me anyway.

  6. try the latest version of nero with the video-dvd template in the wizard. The latest version hasnt given me any problems, while discs burned with a few of the older versions would only play in some players.

  7. Nero writes DVD image files to DVD media as well as DVD Decrypter does. Dont mix things, guys.
Nero dont writes well (or not as compatible) a DVD authored files into DVD+-R (VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS), but if you build a .img file with imgtool or a iso with DVDDecrypter, or whatever program that builds image files to hard disk you can burn it with Nero with no problems at all.

You can copy DVD-+R to other DVD media with Nero without problems too. (in "Copy DVD" mode).

    Greets.

I have Nero version 5.5.10.7 and it burns every DVD+RW or DVD+R just perfect on my AOPEN 2412Pro. Like many others that have had problems using Nero in the past, a lot of it came from not getting the files correct before trying to burn. There was always a lot of ripping, stripping, and authoring done with the files and this could easily mess things up.

    Also, early version of Nero did have problems, but since I updated to this version, I've never had a problem. Here are the steps I use;

    1. Rip the DVD with Dycrypter 3.1.4.0. I only select the default and get just the main movie.
    2. Transcode the movie to fit on one DVD+R with DVD2ONE, version 1.0.2. Again, I only select the main movie, english AC3, no subtitles, and set it for 4.7 GB option.
    3. Test the new video output in PowerDVD, or whatever DVD player you have.
    4. Burn in Nero, select DVD-Video, Mode -1, do not enable any other options. On the write command page, make sure you select DVD-ROM

As far as media, I've used Verbatim, Memorex, Sony, AOPEN, and most recently, Fuji DVD+R disks.

Of course it is all very simple now,... but before I got DVD2ONE, I was using all kinds of other software to attempt to create a good DVD,... but nothing every worked because there was always too many steps in too many programs that could cause things to go wrong. The key is once you get it working for you, don't change.

It's always easy to blame it on Nero,... especially for those who don't know how to get it to work.

A lot of people have problems burning with Nero for two reasons:

    1. They don't have the most up to date version
    2. They are burning as a UDF disc rather than a DVD-Video

Burning as UDF has many compatibilty issues with standalone DVD players because it does not conform to the DVD-Video standard

  11. when I drag my 4 gig ISO file into Nero I get an error message that this file cannot exceed 2 gig and something about UDP mode, so Nero does not work for me.

  12. I have been using Nero (last 3 versions) with both a pioneer A04 and Sony DRU-500AX and have not had any issues at all. I use the DVD burning wizard and works great. My normal steps are:
    1. Rip with Dvd dcrypter
    2. Edit files with IFOedit (only of over 4.4 gigs)
    3. Burn with Nero. (Using Dvd-r media princo and apple)

Plays fine on my pc, wifes Imac, and Panasonic DVD player. Also sent out about 50 copied of christmas card on DVD and did not get one complaint that movies could not be played on stand alone sets.

Have you tried to update Nero. I had an OEM version of Nero as well that came with an old CD writer. Just for the heck of it, I installed this version and then downloaded the latest update from NERO's website. The update recognized the OEM version as a valid install and proceeded to install the latest full blown version. I've been burning DVD-R's with Nero and Nero Express ever since with absolutely no problems. With RecordNow DX, it was hit or miss.

[Have you tried to update Nero. I had an OEM version of Nero as well .........]

Well my problem with Nero is that I downloaded a trial version long ago, cracked it, then just installed updates...

When the Nero Express came with my DVD burner I installed it and thought I would finally be legal but what happened was that the Express Deleted the Burning Rom part and I only had access to the Express features which doesn't give me control of the options.

Since I figured out the OEM problem, I downloaded a full version 5.5.9.7 I think, installed my update to 5.5.10.15a, I haven't tried burning a DVD with it yet, but it registers as the full program. 8)

I use DVDdecrypter, dvd2one and Nero, no problems.

I use Nero's DVD-Video template and dump dvd2one's output into the VIDEO_TS folder in nero.

    Works great.

Bstansbury, when you say you set dvd2one to 4.7GB, is this the "4472mb" offered by dvd2one, or do you change this setting to a user defined setting???

Sorry if I confused the issue. I leave DVD2one settings alone and there are 4.4GB. The disks I buy are rated at 4.7 GB.

I have had some problems with dVD2one when I try to set the output size to values as low as 700 MB. The settings seem to work once, but if you then want to change them to something else,... it won't take it.

I've been trying to make a miniDVD, and while I was able to use DVD2one to create the file, I've not had luck getting it to play after I burned it with Nero. The problem may be with the format used to burn or that the DVD players I have won't play miniDVD disk.
