Which DVD Recorder would be best for making DVD's that would play back on a Dell computer Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2502? Would any of the rewritable formats work?

I have this drive in my laptop and it does not play rewrittables.
It's DVD playback is acceptable, somewhat unstable if u fast forward or rewind on homemade, high quality, disks. -
Thanks for your reply. Do you use DVD-R? What brands? Can you record a 30 minute segment and play it back on the computer?
