Here's my technique:
1) capture avi with VirtualDub then edit out commercials, etc.
2) encode avi to mpeg2 with TMPGenc producing audio and video stream (m2v and mp2/mpa)
3) author the 2 streams with InfoEdit
4) Burn with Nero
I get good DVD, but the audio/video is slightly out of synch. Most obvious when people are speaking.
How can I fix this???

Try encoding with TMPGEnc using an external sound encoder.
Hello. -
a lot of TV capture cards do have slightly out of synch video. easiest way to overcome, find a noise that is easy to identify with a visual cue (a loud explosion is good) load up your .avi in tmpgenc, and in the source range scan to your explosion. make sure the audio is displayed, and adjust the delay until the first frame showing the explosion has the beggining of the explosion noise displayed below. now keep the delay value and try encoding a short clip of someone talking, if it's in synch, you've done it. remember the settings for next time you capture, and use the same ones.

I notice that in VirtualDub (capture mode) there is a checkbox to lock audio steam to video in the capture>settings menu. Will this do anything to help my situation?
