A friend of mine encoded a DVDR for me, but on my Toshiba SD-4800, it has no sound! I took it to my PC and also to my Toshiba SD-1600, and it plays perfectly (my SD-1600 rarely plays DVDRs).
It's strange behavior. Does anyone know why I would not get sound on one player (the newest model that usually plays DVDRs), but I would on others?
Thanks,
Brian

It may be encoded as mp2 audio and maybe your player does not support it. mp2 audio support is not required by the DVD specs for players sold in the USA. Only European players are required to support it.
Or maybe it does support it but you need to change some option in the setup menus somewhere.
