Anyone see this yet? Many local stations and cable channels are already transmitting HDTV versions, and this thing will capture at those resolutions. $299 pricetag aint too bad for what it delivers

That is pretty cool, I wonder if it comes with an editor to help clip out commercials. TMPGE doesn't have a high enough resolution rate to put to DVD to make it worth while if you plan to convert your captures to DVD. I assume there is an editor out there, but I can only imagine how much it costs.

You can also get HDTV cards here :

I have the MYHD card. It works great, but forget about using it to save TV. Each 2 hours uses 16GB. There is a utility to turn the 16GB .ts file into a .mpg MPEG file(takes time). Now you will have to De-mux the mpg into separate audio and video files(takes time). Now you have to reduce the bit rate and screen format into DVD parameters(takes time). Re-MPEG chokes, I don't have CCE and TMPenc may work but the process of re-encoding 16 GB into 4 GB would probably take 2 days. Next you would have to re-author the video and audio into a proper mpg or vob for playback. Now that you have reduced good HDTV into a pretty nice DVD it's no longer HDTV.
Once Blue-ray disc recorders arrive later this year AND the media finally get's into the reasonable price range, maybe I'll save some of the programs to disk in full HDTV format. Until then, there's nothing on TV worth spending a day or two re-encoding to end up with slightly better than TV resolution RESULT.
I bought a larger hard drive and simply use the device to time shift hdtv. anything else is just a waste of time and resources. Remember, these devices will not work with DIRECTV so you can't even record HDTV movies or pay-per view.
