  1. I have a mpeg2 file of 680 MB and converted it with tmpenc (mpegtools)
to a mpeg1 file via multiplexing
However after multiplexing the filesize becomes 225MB bigger which do not fit on one cdr.
Why does this happen, and can I prevent this?

It's not very clear what you have done. Multiplexing a file (with audio) does not change the stream type from MPEG-2 to MPEG-1. From what you say, the extra 225Mb are probably the result of multiplexing a video stream (680Mb) with an audio stream at a high bitrate (225Mb).

If this is the case, a way to avoid re-encoding the video could be to re-encode the audio for a lower bitrate (e.g. 64kbps joint stereo). This should reduce the size of the audio file to the extent the multiplexed file may well fit on a 800MB CD-R

Again, the above comments are guesswork.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  4. What I hav done is the simple vcdheadertrick.
What I only just did is in mpegtools (tmpenc) clicked on multiplex
I loaded the svcd file. with type[mpeg-2 vbr]
Hereafter i selected type: mpeg-1 vcd and hit run
This resulted in a vcd file which was 200MB bigger?????

    I used this manual
