    I'm posting for a friend.

I just recently got a 1GHZ powerbook with a superdrive and I am wanting to backup some DVD movies of mine. I know this has probably been covered a million times already but I am new to all these terms and I am rather confused. Can someone tell me what programs work well to A: rip the original DVD to my HD and then B: what to use to burn it so it plays in most DVD players. Thanks.

Are there any easy to follow step by step guides? Can you link me?

    Thanks!

DiscomVOBulator and DiscomVOBulatorPlus allows you to make a DVD backup of a DVD Title track. It does *not* clone DVDs, or Re-encode them. If your DVD title is too big to fit on a single DVD-r, it will automaticall be split to fit onto 2 Disks.

You can then add chapter marks using the built-in Visual Chapter editor. Just move the playhead to where you want a new chapter and click the Mark button! The whole process from start to finish takes 1.5-2hours, depending on drive and cpu speeds. Subtitles are not currently supported.

NOTE: Most all dvd's will require 2 dvd-r if you want an exact copy. Heck, even if you want just the movie file itself in the EXACT quality as the DVD.

To get it to one disk, you need encoding software. There are TONS!!!!! personally, the program Forty-Two offered by the same people works ok for this.

I suggest strongly supporting them with a donation if you decide to use these programs. The 1st is a demo which you can later buy (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) the second is free, but you should make a donation given how much effort and time they put into this amazing program.

Before these guys, it was a HEAD ACHE to do any of what we so easily do today with DVD to anything conversion.

    Enjoy
