Are you using the file>open in wmp to do this? That's the only way it works for me.

Copy to your HD, rename to a .MPG file. Fixed that.

  6. I've been having the same kind of problem
It's a bit of a weird one because mine is with a vcd of music videos ... which are in .dat format. The strange part being .... there are 18 songs on the vcd ..... windows media player plays the first 15 songs with no problems .... but the last three songs will NOT play..... they come up with a format not supported message ..... which REALLY DOES NOT make sense seeing as they are the same format as the songs that DO play.
If I play the vcd on my dvd player or even if I use the program powerdvd ALL the songs work fine .... so WHY does WMP have a problem with only the last 3 songs ????? It's got me stumped !!!
I currently use a program called Virtuosa to convert .dat to mp3 .... so that I can get straight audio copies of the music videos. Virtuosa has no problem with either playing or converting the first 15 songs ... but once you get to the last three it has the same problem as Windows Media Player ..... it just doesn't seem to recognise the files.
If anybody can help .... I will be extremely grateful

  7. Oops ... just thought I should add something.
Those last three songs will also not burn. I can copy the vcds to my hard drive , and every song will copy EXCEPT for the last three. I can also do a straight CD copy and burn them all to another CD ..... all songs will play fine on my dvd player ..... but my computer will only recognise the first 15 (again)

If you want to use WMP to play the video, why make a VCD at all? IMHO, VCD's are to be played on a stand alone. Only reason to create a VCD (if you want to play it on the computer) is the added storage capacity of the VCD format (compared to writing the mpeg as a data file to CD).
To play VCD on the computer, use some VCD capable player like PowerDVD (or ZoomPlayer).

The short and simple answer is: You can't, as WMP can't play VCD.

  10. 1. WMP cannot play dat files well, usually not at all .

    2. A dat file is an mpeg-1 file with additional info data

    3. VCDGEar can extract the mpeg-1 stream from the dat stream

    4. That solves your problem

If the end of a CD or DVD will not play, the disc is a bad burn.
