  1. I am trying to convert from analog to digital and i need to know what is better recording to digital tape and than input that into the computer or using passthrough to the computer from the analog, and also i have sony trv17 with 680.. px and soon i will buy sony dcr-vx2000 which has 3 ccd and a lot more pixels. I want to have the best possible quality, so i can edit that in the computer and than create svcd or in the future create dvd+r.Is there a diffrence in quality between cameras having more pixels when using the analog conversion, thanx for any advice.

  2. If your getting a 3ccd camera just to passthrough analog video then don't do it. It won't make a differnce when using the pass thought. On the surface it would seem that a ccd with more pixels or with 3ccd would make a vast improvement and it does depending on what you are doing. if your intent is to go out and make professional looking video and you have a lot of cash to burn get a 3ccd.

You have to look at the analog pass though realisticly. It cannot create data where no data exists. say you only have a dv camcorder with 500k pixels and a analog with 310k pixels, you can import the video with the dv camcorder but it won't make the video look any better or create a higher resolution video.

So I guess the answer to you question is no, it will not make a differnce. Of course if you have a analog video source that is higher than your dv camera then it would, but in general no analog source is going to be "better" than your dv camcorder. Hi-8 will come close but.....

    I use a sony PC-9

  3. thanx tommy, that answers my passthrough question, but what about when im recording from anolog unto a digital tape using the digital camera and than i would transfer that into my computer , does that make a diffreance if you have acamera with more pixels, and i am using svideo cable, recording from my v8 tapes and some vhs, using vcr that has an svideo output.

Suggest transferring (recording) ALL - vhs, hi-8 source material to the DV camera . Then export the digital signal through a firewire card to the computer for your editing and burning preasure.

No. To get full advantage of a 3CCD camcorder, recording should be made THROUGH THE LENS, and not through the analog line inputs.

  6. The same reasoning that apply to the pass though also apply when tranferring from a analog source to dv tape. So no it doesn't make a differnce.

Yes a SVHS cable would make a whole lot of difference for the HI-8 and the super vhs, But I'm not sure if it would make a difference for material recorded on a regular vhs and then played on the super vhs to transfer to dv. I don't see how it would hurt so I would use the svhs cable.
