I have a 1GHz PC, so I am capturing first then compressing.

I am capturing from VHS to AVI and will compress to MPEG1 to author VCD.

Which capture resolution is best? 352 x 240?

Capture at highest resolution you can efficiently capture at, then encode down to what you need.

  3. I have just a cheap AVer capture card and I capture VHS directly as mpeg2 then use NeoDVD plus to go directly to DVD-R. This results in a near perfect copy of the VHS every time.

P4-2.53GHz with 1GB of PC2700. My video card is a Radeon 9700 pro. I got the AVer card with some cheap editing program at CompUSA on sale for I believe $30. I didn't even know it had a capture card included until I got home and opened the box LOL.
