I tried looking on the AMD website and didn't find anything worthwile and you can't do a search for words with less than 3 character on here so I haven't found what I'm looking for. I simply want to be informed on what the differences are between the MP and XP CPUs that AMD puts out. I think most of the stories I've heard are just rumors. Some of the common ones:
    - XP is to MP as P4 is to Celeron
    - MPs are prone to catching fire/exploding into little balls of flame when overclocked

Just want to get some more info so that I can make informed conversation if ever it comes up (and I'm sure it will )

Difference between an XP and MP is that the MP is rated for multi processor systems.

Athlon XP is for single processor systems.
Athlon MP is for Multiporcessor systems

Athlon MP is a Athlon Xp at heart but designed for Multiprocessors.

Atlhon XP and Duron is the same as P4 and Celeron

It sticks in mind that in the earlier days the MP and XP cores were different enough that the MP was slightly faster. But the performance difference on a single-CPU system wasn't nearly enough to make up for the price difference between the XP and MP processors. I'm not sure if the MP is still faster or not, but since the XP chips still go to higher clock speeds at lower prices it's not very important.

  5. Yeah, but AthlonXps have dropped in price so much (50 dollars for a 1700+) that its not economical to go buy a duron for like 35 when for 15 dollars you could greatly increase your processing preformance.

But you can mod XPs to be MPs...or atleast I remember a few people doing it at AT

MPs run hotter than XPs. Even with only one running.
