  1. When I rip using SmartRipper, it says "ASPI Not available for this drive" but it works anyway and rips fine.

    So, two questions...

    1. What is ASPI?

    2. Whay would I need it?

    I am running Windows XP SP1, Lite-On Lt-166 DVD-ROM, Sony DRU-500A Burner.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. "ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. Originally developed by Adaptec. It is a software layer that enables programs to communicate with SCSI and ATAPI devices(CD and DVD Drives and other storage peripherals)."

    Taken right from https://www.videohelp.com/glossary#aspi

  3. Thanks for the reply Bob. I did see the glossary definition, and even went to the referenced page, but to be quite honest it didn't really make a lot of sense to me.

To be specific, I evidentally don't have ASPI installed, or SmartRipper can't use it. Everything seems to be working fine, but would ripping be faster if I had ASPI? Are there other advantages?

    I'm so confused...

I'm right with you and don't have a clue what it all means. All I know is SmartRipper for me didn't want to work so I used the "ForceASPI" utility program and it works well now. I have a LiteON LTD 163D DVD drive and I rip DVD9 or dual layer DVD's at speeds of 8 to 12x most of the time.
