  1. After searching the archives I still have the following question related to labeling a DVD+/-R.

Is it the Label itself, maybe the player, and/or is it dependent upon which media you are burning too. I read several posts and noted that some have been successful on placing the stick-on CD/DVD label and had no playpack issues. However, it appears as if most do have playback problems when the disk is labelled.

I tried labeling a couple of backup DVD's with cheap and thin CD stomper labels. My standalone Toshiba and my PC Liteon DVD drive would not read or play the disk. However, my NEC DVD+ writer would recognize and play the disc just fine with no issues. The media is Fuju DVD+R 2.4 times.

Has anyone found media that works just fine with a label on it that has been tested on a fair amount of standalone's for playback? Or is it just one of those deals where there is really no alternative except for the Sharpie method?

    Thanks,
    DJ

  2. My suggestion to you would be to stop putting labels on your DVD's to begin with. More times then not it causes unequl weight disparity which will cause most standalones to give you problems. I noticed you get it MORE often WITH labels, which would indicate it is definitely the labels causing the problems.

Fuji is a respectable brand, but I don't like them personally, and haven't tried the +R media. Anyway, you do have other resorts for "labels" if you want to stick with labels that is. They have different types of more expensive labels which are more professional and apparently don't cause these playback issues as often. As I said though, I personally have never used labels and never will. Just use a sharpie or another type of DVD Marker and IF you experience playback issues on the "non-label" disk at least you have narrowed one less problem down.
