  1. PC is a 2.66, 512 meg of ram, 7200 rpm 120 gig disk.

The audio is out of sync with the video and gets worse the longer I record from a camcorder.

I am capturing through the All In Wonder S-Video adapter cable that also has audio female plugs.

The recommended hookup seems to be asking for trouble. The audio goes into this adapter cable (with the video), into the AIW card, then back into the audio in on the AIW card from the sound cards audio out.

I use Showbiz 1.1 and have selected line in as the source of audio. The only other option is TV Tuner. And nothing but static comes from that.

Question: Is there a better way to get audio that might be more direct?

This problem is REALLY killing me since ATI will not talk to me because the card came with the PC from HP. And HP can't figure it out.

  2. Are you capturing in AVI or MPEG ?

  3. I think it's AVI. But I'm not positive.

  4. Try capturing using a MPEG preset (ie. the DVD High preset). it seems that AIW a/v sync issues only happen when capturing to AVI.

1.I would put the audio input straight into your sound card - forget the thru cables on the AIW cable and select Line In as audio source . Going through the AIW just increases latency really .
2.Try capping with VirtualDub to see if you are dropping frames at all .
3.I assume you have checked that DMA is turned on .
4.Update sound card drivers etc .
5.Although you have a 120gig HD , you are still capping to your system disk , if you have a smaller drive , set it up as your system disk and boot off it and just put your 120gig on the other ide channel as master and set up your 120gig as the capture drive and see if that works .

When this problem came up in an old post , it mentioned it could be the sound card not being up to the job , if it was an onboard one - it also mentioned specifically the SB live card - which I have (and an AIW card) , I updated the drivers etc etc but it didn`t work .

If you search on this subject , theres loads of ideas about how to cure it , my list is nowhere near full , just a few starter ideas .

How I Solved My Sync Problem

When I used to capture on a drive that hadn`t been formatted for about 3 years (ie it still had all its crap in the registry etc) , and it dropped frames and was out of sync . But after I setup a dual boot drive to a fresh Windows install with no crap installed and all the unused MS stuff removed , I`ve never had a problem since . I still don`t know what caused it , rogue corrupt file , registry errors , cocked up drivers or just the vast amount of crap I had installed , including stuff like fonts that load up - but , I don`t care , it now works .

This was with a Celeron 900 at the time , capturing full size 704 x 576 PAL .
There is a way to mimic a freshly installed hard disc , without making a dual boot - but it does require a knowledge of DOS and Faith and is a pain in the arse - so dual booting or even reformatting is the easier answer . Er... and no , I still haven`t reformatted mine yet .

  6. I had similar problems and solved them by using IUVCR to capture in AVI. It has separate timers for audio and video. I strongly recommend it.
