I've used IC and I like the program. However, the video conversion it does sometimes does not look that good (anything below 60% quality does not look good) and the picture is pixalated.
I've used TMPGEnc and I know it takes a long time but it gives me much, much better quality for those long DVD9 movies.
I was wondering if there is any way I can re-encode only the vobs in the main movie with TMPGEnc and correct the ifos so that the movie is still playable and can skip thru chapters just like the original. I know that I would need to demux the audio files and after encoding remux them back in to the vob. I've done this once but everytime I select play the main movie starts up and quits on me. I'm guessing the vectors and all the other stuff isn't in the right spot.
I wish IC would have an encoder for DVD 1:1 conversion. I don't care that it takes 12 hours to do. I just want a better quality picture and I know it can be done because I've done it. Just can't keep the menu.

DVDman,
I don't have Instant copy yet but why would you go to 60% quality. According to what your saying you are dropping the dvd (720x480)resolution to below svcd (480x480) resolution.
why don't you just delete some things?
I heard there is a way to adjust the extras and the menu quality.I am sure if you do a search (on this site) for Instant Copy you will find out how to do this.
Hope this helps
VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
Well, some movies can definitly be stripped from all the extras but some can NOT, simply because they don't have any extras. Take Sopranos episodes for example. There is a menu and the 4 episodes. The only thing to strip off would be the 5.1 DD. Besides, I don't want to strip anything. I want to keep all of it and I don't want to use DVDxCopy.

Use CCE which is better than TMPG... and there are lots of guides that can cover what you need... On the guide I made, there is a "Full DVD back up" using DVD2DVDR which does what you need.
About episode DVDs... The same thing can be done for them using my guide... All you have to do it's resize them so X episodes match the XX size (4.3gigs).

With a little work, you can do anything you want... Everything is trial and error and the will of not giving up after failing once...

Yeah I know, I've been on this for 3 weeks now. I just wish someone would come up with a package like IC that would actually encode all of it.

I figured, less stuff running is better. -
I do Daemon Tools simply because I always mess up somehow -- that's life can't do anything about it... This way if I mess up I don't have to re-rip the VOBs again and also sometimes I do other tests with other programs and I like to keep my DVD ROM as long as possible...
How to do Episode DVDs... It's simple actually... As you said 4 eps on a DVD -- Let's say they are 2gigs each.. so you have a 8gig DVD, maybe 9 with extras, etc...
Following the Full DVD guide, just resize each ep to 1gig and use IFOUpdate to fix the IFO files. Do that 4 times and you are done...
Is it a lot of work? Yep...
Can you use Instant Copy or DVD95COpy to do it for you? Probably...
Will it be the best quality if you use either of those programs mention above? That's up to you to decide and no one else...
Right now I'm working on an episode DVD guide... I'm using Cowboy Bebop Vol 1 as my test... That DVD is hell... First ep is on VTS 4, second ep in VTS 6 or so and it goes like that... they aren't in a row... so it's a lot of work to do it... I guess it's a good example... If you can do something that hard... Then the easy stuff becomes easier!!!

OK, so when I do all 4 of them I'll get 4 ifo files where the original only had 1. How do I combine all 4 in to 1 again? Or can I correct the original to acomadate for each of the 4 I made?

You can use this method:
DVD Decrypter > IFOEdit > ReMpeg > IFOEdit > Nero to burn
The first IFOEdit step strips out all the extras you don't want (menus, subtitles, unnecessary audio streams, outtakes, etc.). ReMpeg does the compression, and in my opinion, if you use the highest quality settings, there's nothing out there that makes a compressed movie look any better. But, it takes 20 - 24 hours for the average 2.5hr movie.
The second IFOEdit takes the .m2v file that ReMpeg spits out and remuxes it into new .VOB files. You then burn the new .VOB files with Nero. Wham, any movie (within reason...you would just put Casino on 2 discs) on 1 disc with undetectable compression.
If you need more in-depth explanation about this process, feel free to IM me. Also, I'm not sure how this process works with TV episodes, so I might not be a very big help.

Yeah, I got that process down now. Thanks.
But my main concern is the episode DVDs. They have multiple PGCs in one title set and DVD2DVD-R can only do one at a time.
Now, after it's done it gives me a new ifo file along with the main video_ts ifo file that I can burn to a DVD-R but I still have 3 more to go. So, after I finish all 4, what do I do to them, to get those 4 ifo files back to one title set with 4 PGCs in it and only one ifo file? -
I must finished my guide but I'm fed up with school work so it won't be possible until this weekend...
Seperate IFO files:
This is what you basically do... Each episode has its own IFO file... If you read the guide I had for Full movie using DVD2DVDR -- you see the last step of authoring it's IFOUpdate... IFOUpdate will fix the IFO file so you can use the menu and so on...
Now you would use IFOUpdate as many times as there are episodes... You won't fix the same IFO file but the one that goes with your episode...
I haven't really tested this way so I am not 100% confident that it will work, but in theory I don't see why it shouldn't work... Then again there is something that always goes wrong... That's life I guess...
One IFO File:
If it only has one IFO file for the 4 episodes... Then it's sorta simple... Use DVD Maestro and on the "Movie Timeline"... You would have to make 4 "Movie timelines"... That way it will give you 1 IFO file with 4 episodes in it...Also in the command sequence make sure at the end of episode 01 (chapter = preview of ep2 or ending of ep1), you set episode 02 to start...
If it works, let me know, I would love to see how futher my theory can go!

Hey luke,
Let me know if you got that guide on episode backups finished. I'm still confused about muliple PGCs. The individual episedes can not be addjusted for quality in IC7. Addjusting one changes all of them. I'm wondering if DVD95copy can do that.
Anyway, I'm wondering if you got anything figured out with those multiple PGCs. -
Let me get something straight, when a program re-encodes a movie in order to fit it on a DVD-R, does it change the resolution or the bitrate? Everyone seems to say something different each time...
