  1. HI , i'm trying to make a single dvd with the best quality posible using tmpgenc 2-pass vbr and none of the authoring programs i've tried seem to work properly.
I made a compliant dvd mpeg 720x480 , with compressed mpeg l2 audio at 384k and spruceup seems not to work with vbr , sonic mydvd makes a higher file size due to compressed sound. Movie factory does the same and reencodes even if i try not to re-encode the video selecting the " no reencode if dvd compliant" and selecting the mpg sound at 384 , ifoedit seems to work but playing the file on my 2 dvd both get sound errors.
Any idea or suggestions about authoring VBR mpeg2 file?

  2. I've done this (VBR MPEG2 file encoded with CCE and authored with Maestro) all the time, no problems. If you encoded with TMPGenc then your audio is going to be MPEG1 layer 2 (mp2) which is NOT supported, althought 99.9%+ of DVDs will play it

But it appears that at least one of your programs tried to re-encode the audio. Still Ulead should be able to do this. De-mux the MPEG2 file to m2v + mp2, and re-encode the mp2 file to PCM or AC3. Then give Ulead another try.

Also I assume that your video is 29.97fps (or 23.976 and you ran pulldown) as no other framerate is supported.

  3. Thnx for the answer , but correct me if i'm wrong ,using the pcm or ac3 audio will result a bigger MB file than the mpg layer 2 , so the video will not be as good as using mp2 , f.e. 3 hours of vbr video using pcm at 1536 results in a sound file of 1978 MB and the space for the video will only be of 2373 mb and the video will suffer a considerable loss of quality.
Using mp2 at 384 the sound uses 494 mb and the video 3823 mb leaving more space to increase the vbr max and medium bitrate sizes. I'm using this calculator http://dvd-hq.info/Calculator.html . I 've made a succesful CBR dvd using mp2 so my dvd is capable of playing that sound , but no luck with VBR yet.

  4. My mistake , i used inverse telecine and caused the problem with VBR, (but worked fine with CBR !!!???)i 've tried the 3:2 pulldown and UMF2 seems to work fine and spruce up works too. will the jerky playback of 23,976 to 29,9 conversion appear on the screen?
