  1. Ok i have used tmpgenc for a short while now.. in the past 2-3 weeks i have been coming back to my pc to find that it has been rebooted due to tmpgenc crashing.

So i have tried several different versions and different settings sometimes i get no crash for one or two conversions.... then will crash and after that will only do one conversion before crashing.

It always seems to finish the conversion save the file then crash the pc... or get right to then not save the conversion and reboot the pc.. which is obviously even more annoying!

I have read several forums and seen quite a few people have this problem, so i dont think it is my pc (i hope not).

I have an AMD 1Ghz tbird 768MB ram ECS K7S5A mobo... but like i sadi things used to be fine

anyone else had this problem and got around it anyway?

    I usually convert avi - mpeg2 ....... avi's being divx mpeg4, xvid mpeg4, divx5.02 etc etc

Any help on this subject would be very gratefully received!

  2. Have you found your problem yet? I also have trouble with TMPGEnc crashing when I try to encode AVI to almost anything. I have several computers that I encode with but this is the only one that I use for encoding AVI files to vcd and dvd and also the only one that crashes. Mine is a 1.3 gig athlon 512 ram 120 hd xp home. I use winfast tv2000xp for capture and the problem seems to be connected to the drivers for that card. I have installed a 500 watt power supply w/2 fans the system temp is low and the computer does everything very well except encode avi files. It actually seems to encode with fewer problems if I don't unload the Winfast software from memory before starting the encode. Must be an issue nobody has cured as I read lots of posts on this problem with always the same list of possible cures that do not help the problem. It also crashes way less with the drivers that came on the CD with the card as opposed to the updated version. I haven't heard of crashing problems with p4 systems, mostly just athlon. ............ harrymj3

Not sure if this helps but maybe worth a try as it cured the problem for me.

    Goto 'options>enviromental settings>VFAPI Plugin.

Then increase the priority setting for 'Directshow Multimedia File Reader' to 1 or 2.

This helped me after it kept on crashing when certain AVI's were selected.

  4. Yes, I have set the dirrect show setting to 2. That's the only way it would even open the avi files. The problem is like verm 1 n's. It crashes during the encoding process. Must be some sort of conflict someplace. Thanks for the post. .......... harrymj3

  5. I believe that I've found what is causing crashing while encoding on my system. When I installed the upgraded drivers and application for Leadtek TV2000XP I did not completely remove the original program that came on the CD included with the card. I just upgraded the drivers and installed the upgrade app. Now I have removed everything that came with the card w/add & remove programs. Then I removed and reinstalled the card with the new drivers only and the new app only. I am on my second encode and all seems well. The computer is running smoothly like it should and the quality of the encode has greatly improved. ....... harrymj3

anyway im gonna try and remove my gfx card drivers and see if it works!?

altho it used to work fine...... and i have tried reinstalling drivers.. oh well we shall see!

  7. The motherboards you are using has a SIS chipset. Have you installed the lastest chipset drivers for the motherboard? If you've updated them AT ALL within the last year on your OS install it may not be the problem but if you have never installed this driver set it can cause all kinds of problems. Th0se drivers even add 30 - 40% to your video performance when installing them on a chipset driverless system.. Anyway you might also try reinstalling your display drivers. Make sure to uninstall, reboot, then install the new drivers. Do not just overwrite the old ones. A BIOS flash could be prudent as well..

If all else fails try an OS format. Good luck.
