Main Concept encodes my SVCDs about twice as fast as TMPGenc does...it does not however keep the proper aspect ratio.

I can get around this by frameserving from Virtualdub, using the resize filter to add the necessary borders...but this makes Main Concept run about half the speed as it does without frameserving....which means it is about the same speed as TMPGenc...which defeats the object cos the reason I want to use Main Concept is because of its speed!

So to get a proper aspect ratio SVCD I can either use TMPGenc alone, or Main Concept frameserved from Virtualdub...they both take the same time.

I have a feeling the slowdown is the fault of Virtualdub and not Main Concept....if this is the case is there another program which will frameserve the video to Main Concept faster?...I have looked at AVIsynth (for about 10 seconds before I realised it looked HIDEOUSLY complicated).

  2. You can try a couple of things. You can edit the header (already discussed in several other threads) to make sure to make sure the settings are correct for the aspect ratio.

Alternatively, you could ask at the MainConcept website if there isn't someting you can set. There are a lot of settings within MainConcept that I haven't dug all the way through yet. There is probably something you need to adjust that is in the advanced panel.

Alternatively, frameserve and resize using avisynth which is much faster than VDub. Again the how to is already discussed in several threads here. I've had good luck using avisynth to MainConcept for CVDs so I presume that it would work fine for SVCDs

Thanks Sammie...I'll check out the Main Concept site...if no joy there I might try AVIsynth again
