need help with divx and ac3 file .

hello all
i have 2 question :

1) how can i play ac3 file in my computer ? do i need a spiceal program
or hardware ?

2) every time i play a avi file in my computer there ar alot of freezing
how can i stop them and play the movie write, without any problem ?

i have a win xp sp1, pentium 3 555, holltwood plus, sblive 4.1,256 mb

1) Just install a software DVD player like PowerDVD... then associate .ac3 file-extension with windows media player (mplayer2.exe)...or right click .ac3 file and then select "open with..." and select windows media player... When clicking the .ac3 file, it should play in mediaplayer!!!

2) Could be everything.... depends on what AVI files it are... (DivX5 on PIII/555MHz??? I don't know if this works fine)
I have PIII/1GHZ and even with uncompressed DV-AVI files (eg. 720x576 resolution) have some glitches during play!!!
