  1. Three and a half hours to do what takes DVD2one 15 mins. Unless there is a vast improvement in picture quality I'm having doubts I will ever use it again. I'm going to do the same movie with both programs to see if it's worth the time.

  2. Well I absolutely cannot see any difference in video quality using Instant Copy and DVD2one. Since I could care less about the menu and the fact that Instant Copy is so slow I doubt I will be using it much if at all.

  3. I laughed when I read this post, very true. I use DVD2One unless I need everything on dvd.

I dont understand how people could compare the speed of transcoding just the movie(DVD2ONE) vs. Transcoding an entire DVD w/menus and extras(Instantcopy) you cant compare the two.

You can't see a difference in quality because DVD2one uses a higher bitrate for encoding than InstantCopy due to the fact that InstantCopy encodes the whole DVD and not just the movie.

Therefore, I believe that InstantCopy has that better quality encoder.

That may be true so I'm guessing that if I used Instant Copy to just encode the movie with no extras or menu like DVD2one then it may have a slightly better picture quality. Problem is for my eyes the extra three hours is not worth it.

I swear it would take some serious hard core programing on Pinnacles part to make this program any slower. It's even slower than Studio8 which is pretty bad.

i have tried to copy 3 dvd's from dvd-9 to dvd-5 using instant copy and 2 out of the 3 times the encoded video was larger than 4.32 gb's even though i removed extra audio and video trailers! . slider was set to 4.31 g.b. and i ended up with over 5 gigs twice. so its back to dvd2one i geusse !!

  10. InstantCopy does not remove trailers. You have to hack it in order to do so. Once you start using the registry hack the results are unpredictable. It has been suggested to remove your trailers and correct all the ifos using ifoedit prior to using InstantCopy.

I have done over 30 movies..by lowering the compression on the extras and have had no problems. Not once have I removed an extra or trailer using InstantCopy.

thanks for the info, looks like i might as well try to correct the ifo's with ifoedit as u suggested ,is this the method that worked for u with your 30 movies ?cause i lowered the compresion on all extras to the bare min. reset slider to 4.31 and still ended up with over 5 gigs transcoded. hmmm..

if u rip just the movie files with smartripper in file mode, create new ifos with ifoedit (most people don't know u can create new ifos with ifoedit, they think u can just change or correct old ones) , u won't have them probelms. and the longest it ever took ic7 to make a movie for me(American Me & Pearl Harbor, long movies) is 121 minutes (most movie take just 35 minutes). just make sure u take out them other languages and subtitles.

Everybody seems to forget just 2-3 month ago, it took 24 hours to shrink a movie to a DVD5. NOW THEY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT 2 OR 3 HOURS.

I am sorry but in my opinion you can not compare DVD2one with Instant Copy in this manner. This is not a valid comparison; you would have to judge the Instant Copy process against a full re-encode and author in a time comparison. So with that in mind, let’s look at the time it would take to do the needed steps after the rip and before a burn. Something like run the vob through DVD2AVI then frame serve and encode with CCE or TMPGEnc, and finally author the new project, with what ever price range you could afford, authoring tools. Even if you do not want the menus, I happen to like menus of some kind. Remember this is a BU of the original and if the original is damaged this is your only copy. I believe Instant Copy still gets my vote for speed to quality ratio. I have purchased and use both programs; I feel they are both very good tools as are the most of the others I use.
If you have been doing this for a while or better yet have done a few 20+ [CPU hour] encodes with something like, REMPEG or some other equally SLOW and in my opinion antiquates process. It would seem to me you would be happy to use a program like Instant Copy for the 2 to 4 [CPU hours] for a full back over a re-encode of from 6 to 12 [CPU hours] with even the best programs on the market for the home user today.
Times will vary depending on the process, your equipment and your skill level.
