  2. Do some searching...but to give you the skinny...5.1 in SVCD not possible, only in miniDVD format.

  3. Multichannel 5.1 MPEG audio is offically in the SVCD specs, but it is unlike that your hardware setup will support it. Making such a thing isn't that easy either.

Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) is not supported in SVCD.
DTS (5.1) is not supported in SVCD.

Thus, for SVCDs, stick with plain Dolby Surround encoded stereo. DD5.1 is an option with miniDVD if you have a stand-alone player that supports this.

  4. Well, I would like to encode miltichannel on SVCD, but I'm also planning on getting a DVD burner by the end of december (pioneer). So I also need to find out how to do it for DVD.
At that point I'll still be creating SVCDs for my relatives.

My Apex can play DVD compliant mpeg2 files just burned to the CD at 80% the standard DVD rate (about vbr 6000), which works for small clips perfect.

  5. Like he said, mpeg-2 multichannel is not only a long process but likely unsupported by your hardware OR your relatives hardware...but if you are getting a DVD burner..why would you not make DVD-Rs (I assume) that contain ac3 5.1 surround instead mpeg-2 surround??...which Apex do you have, playing a mpeg-2 compliant file is different than playing a vob file with encoded ac3 audio?
