Here's my deal:
Going to capture video from vcr and digital camcorder from time to time, use software to edit, dump it down to a dvd disc.
Hardware and Software:
Anolog Signal (possible S-VHS every now and again) from VCR
Digital Signal from Sony TRV-25 Digital Camcorder
Adobe Premier 6.0 & 6.5
Sony DRU 500 AX Burner
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capturing:
Since I am going to be working with two different sources, I need a firewire card, and a pvr card. For the Firewire card I am going with the model my computer dealer has for my specific pc. The PVR card I hear Hauppage is really good and the new one came out that is hardware based not software so I was planning on getting that as well.
Editing:
Planning on using the best, Adobe Premier 6.0 and 6.5.
Burning:
Going to use the Sony DRU-500 that recently came out to not worry about blank media formats (since it burns on DVD+&- / R&RW)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you guys see I should have problems with and how can there be a solution? I see a number of different links in the chain where I could run into some need of help; i.e. Connecting my video signal from either my vcr or camcorder to my pc card / Software that will capture it properly to edit it.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Ress - you didn't mention your computer specs (other than the DRU500AX burner). That can have an effect on your captures, depending on what you have and how it's configured.

i would just get if i were you a canopus adc-100 or a pyro A/V link (see news page) ... then all your source formats would be DV
also - stick with Premiere 6.5 (not 6) or switch to something better as in Vegas 4 -
COOP:
In terms of my pc specs,
1 gig processor
500+ memory
Intel pentium 4
40 gig HD
BJ_M:
Could you explain further, 'cause from what I understand, Firewire is needed to capture off of a Digital Video Camcorder, . . . I mean, on my camcorder the only connection I see is for Firewire. -
yes - for sony camcorder use firewire and also for analog use canopus or pyro which hooks into your same firewire card and converts analog to firewire (DV) ..
so from any source you will have dv avi video ... good stuff .. no sync problems , great quality
easy to edit that way from different sources ..
