I've created a few vcds and when I go to play them on my dvd player (Phillips dvd724) it does not play any sound. I have it connected to a reciever could that be my problem?

Search your player in the DVD player's list, and see if other users of that player have had the same problem. It might be that your DVD player does not support VCD. Try playing it on your PC, to see if it's a problem with burning the VCD (if you dont have any playing software on your PC look in the 'tools' section of this site). I'm not sure what you mean by a 'receiver' but try disconnecting it and see if it plays fine like that.
