lol...I wasn't suggesting you were crap at maths or anything! ...just that I always triple check my maths just in case!.

Glad the video is ok....so its just the audio thats out now then?

First thing to check is whether the audio is off by a constant amount (good) or does it vary in how much it is out of sync (bad!)...if its constant throughout the movie its quite easy to fix...first decide roughly how much the audio is ahead of or behind the video. Then use either goldwave or soundforge6 to either remove a bit of the beginning or insert a silence at the beginning accordingly...then encode a small clip (a part with talking is good so you can see lips moving) and see what the sync is like...if it needs furthur adjustment then redo the process until it is spot on....doesnt take as long as it sounds.

Another thing to try is to check is that the video and audio are exactly the same length....you know the exact length of the audio already...work out the length of the video by multiplying number of frames (virtualdub/file/file information) by 25....if they differ by a fraction of a second try inserting a silence of that length at the beginning of the audio (if the audio is ahead of the video)...or removing the same amount if the audio is behind the video....this doesnt always work but is worth a try cos it sometimes gets the sync spot on first try....if it doesn't work then you'll have to try the trial and error method above.

  2. ok mate cheers for all this help (i need it).

so i have tried it again and the audio is still out, the video comes first then the sound but its only a very small amount of time it is out by but still quite noticable, i think it gets slighty worse as the film goes on but i might just be paranoid.

i was thinking, you said, "The only thing I'm not sure about is whether you have to leave the audio at 48000 for DVD instead of converting to 44100..if this is the case then ignore the bit about converting to 44100"

so would this make a difference to the audio cause i had it at 48000 and if i change it would it matter.

here is the information about the clip before i changed it to 25 frames

    jackass.the.movie.dvdrip.xvid-glorious.avi
when i open it i get the VBR audio warning (but i ignored it)
    video stream
    frame size 544x304 23.976fps (41708)
number of frames (time) 122301 (1.25.00)
    Decompressor Xvid Mpeg4 Codec
    Number of key frames 1540
    Min/avg/max total key frames 1812/10786/32830 (16222k)
    Min/avg/max total delta frames 93/5166/28197 (609245k)

    Audio stram
    Sampling rate 48000Hz
    Channels 2 (stereo)
    sample precision 0-bit
compression Fraunhofer IIS Mpeg Layer # Codec
    Preload skew 96 samples (0.00s)
    number of frames 212538
    Min/avg/max total frames size 96/389/960 (80775K)

After i change it to 25 the information is:

    video stream
    frame size 544x304 25.000fps (40000)
number of frames (time) 122301 (1.21.32)
    Decompressor Xvid Mpeg4 Codec
    Number of key frames 1540
    Min/avg/max total key frames 1812/10786/32830 (16222k)
    Min/avg/max total delta frames 93/5166/28197 (609245k)

    and no audio

if there is anythin else i need to tell you please let me know mate

  5. "FourCC changer on your movie to make TMPGenc" what is this mate i thought the only way was to change the direct show settings.
    more info please

and if a xvid movie comes in 2 parts should i append them first using virtual dub then take out the sound or take the sound out, im confused i was trying to do the jack ass one because that was a full movie.
but this other movie is giving me more probs

also when i append the movies together an go to audio and full processing mode then compression and chose no compression and try to save the wav it gives me this error:

the requested audio compression is not compatable with the imput format, check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.

the movie im trying to do this with has a unknown (tag 2000) in the audio section if this helps

Ok...first off...best not to mention specific movies by name or the big bad moderators will tell us off and lock this thread! lol

I don't know about the second movie you mentioned...I just know the first one you mention is full of problems.

Now...if your audio says Unknown (tag 2000) in virtualdub then you've come across a movie with AC3 sound....oh joy!!!!!!!!...TMPGenc cannot handle AC3 sound and it has to be converted to normal WAV audio before TMPGenc will accept it. Most of the people on this site will tell you to use Besweet or Headache to convert the audio......but a much easier method is to just load the entire movie avi into Goldwave, then just click file/save as and save the WAV...job done....the WAV will then be ready for use in TMPGenc or goldwave again if you want to time warp it for a PAL conversion etc.

the FourCC changer is something that everyone should know how to use...but it is hardly mentioned on this site. It makes Xvids sooooo much easier to encode!
First find the Xvid folder in your program files...inside it there should be a little application called AviC.exe run this application and browse to your movie...you will see two fields that say "Xvid"...change BOTH of these fields to "DivX" and click Ok...job done...you should now find that TMPGenc accepts the movie without any problems. You haven't actually changed the movie into a DivX...all you have done is fooled TMPGenc into THINKING it is a DivX.

By the way...my direct show priority setting is at -1....if I put it any higher i get jerkiness problems. It works fine for me at -1.

As for whether to join the movies before extracting audio etc...well I'm not totally sure to be honest, cos I only make svcds rather than DVDs.

I suppose if you wanted to put the whole movie on one disc it makes sense to join the 2 parts before extracting audio etc...although don't quote me on that!
