  1. I'm trying to create VCD's for use on a standalone dvd player from Divx files. For some reason I can't convert from a Divx avi to a mpg file. I've tried using TMPGEnc and XingMPEG Encoder. Normal avi files work but Divx files come up with "source file in use or unsupported codec". I have the Divx codecs installed because the files play.(kscodecsv433). Can anyone help.

  2. Yes, u need to use a program called avi2vcd. It does direct conversion from avi to a standard compliant VCD mpg. However, its simply a small point and click program and doesnt have any adjustable quality options or anthing speciaL, also, it takes much longer to encode with it then it does if u could use TMPGenc, unfortunatly the newer builds of TMPGenc dont support DivX conversion.

  3. chris, i am afraid you are innacurate in your description of tmpgenc....using the latest "j" version, i just tested it to convert a divx to vcd and it has started the conversion fine i even stopped the process, viewed the created file and it converted up to that point well

  4. Check out the kristal codec as suggested in the "How To..convert" troubleshooting part (at the end..)
It helped me to open files which wouldn't open earlier
