  1. Hi,

can anyone explain to me the term 'capture' and 'transfering' video using Firewire?

newbie to dv...just bough dv camera with firewire card..everthing is hooked up o.k. but...

is it so that i have to 'transfer' the video to pc by 'capturing' from video editing editing software such as premier/unlead studio.

    OR

can i transfer to PC with window explorer... drag and drop..the problem is i can see my canon device in the window explorer but when i clicked it, it doesn't show anything (my video)..

is there anyway to transfer from dv camera to pc without any video editing software?

any help will be really appreciated...

    thanks

  2. You can try DVIO. Remember that DV takes up to 13 gig per hour. For DV, you must use a capture tool that will essentially import (or transfer) the DV on your computer. The word "capture" is used for importing DV. However in a way, firewire will merely transfer the DV to your computer and does not actually "capture it" in the strict sense (the camcorder does the DV capturing).

  3. hi yg1968,

    thanks for ur reply

btw when talking about import (or transfer) the DV to PC, do you know any idea about the time taken?...

i mean if i have a 30 min video footage, does that mean it's going to take
30min to transfer the DV to PC?

thanks again for the link...i just downloaded it and will be trying after this...maybe i have some idea about the timing after this...

  4. Yes. You are right. It's real time. So 30 minutes will take 30 minutes.
