I bought the Panasonic s35 (I think) and it has a DVD-RAM player. I wanted to use it for editing. For example, I record a program on the Panasonic DMR-E30, than, when I get home I play it back on the s35, then I record it to DVD-R on the DMR-E30. I haven't tried it yet, but one thing that is frustrating is that the remotes work on either player since they are both Panasonic. But who else makes a DVD-RAM player? No one that I know of.

  2. One solution is be to get a pc dvd-rom drive that reads dvd-ram disks. You can transfer the dvd-ram files to your pc then edit/author them and burn to dvd-r. Toshiba is one brand of dvd-rom drives that can read dvd-ram disks. I believe Hiatachi can as well. This way you will not have generational loss of quality.

  3. AFAIK you can change the remote codes used for the pan e30 with a setup menu option which has 3 choices (3 diff units?)..

I would try this to avoid remote interferance with your 2nd panasonic device.

should be able to read the e30 manual for more details about doing this.

May also help to have second device unplugged so it is also not accidentally changed.
    .
I cannot test it here myself.

You are correct....problem solved. It's on page 50 (I think). This makes sense since they were doing a promotion (that I missed ) in February 2003 where one could get this Panasonic DVD-RAM player for free if they purchased a DMR-E30. I missed it by 8 or 9 days. Of course it was just before they dropped the price, but one could have easily have had Circuit City price match. They would have gotten an extra 10% off the price difference plus a free dvd player at a total price of $480 (I hate even thinking about it )

Man, I now have 6 DVD players in my home (Panasonic DMR-E30, Panasonic s35, Pioneer DV-250, Curtis Mathes CMD5000, ProScan DVD, and my cheapo Hi-Val DVD-ROM); it's a bad habit, I guess Is there someone else out there who has more, so I don't have to feel so guilty
I have a hard time getting rid of any of these players b/c they each serve a purpose.

The ProScan has something most DVD don't have- seamless layer change (no pause).
The Curtis Mathes is my daughters.
The Pioneer is an awesome XVCD player and it does good layer changes as well (but not quite as good as the ProScan).
The Panasonic DMR-E30 is obviously serving it's purpose.
The Panasonic 35s is used as a source DVD-RAM.
The Hi-Val really has no purpose other than filling a gap on my computer tower (a wasted $60).

  5. I also have a large number of DVD "players" in my house, and I have to claim ownership and useage of them all.

    Pioneer 104
    Liteon drive
Toshiba drive (for reading ram discs)

    Panasonic E20
Panasonic RA82 (for playing ram discs to record on E20)
Kiiro X5 (this works well with XVCD,SVCD & VCD + plays
mpegs direct from rooft directory, like mp3s)
Alba 108 (study room player but plays dvd media that
won't play on Panasonics or Kiiro)

    Cheers

    i have 7 dvd players:
    playstation2
    compaq dvd-rom
    pioneer 104
    wharfedale 750
    panasonic lv60
    philips 580m
    sharp 740h
although the compaq dvd-rom does'nt really work anymore probably because of dvd ripping.
i feel very guilty having 7 things i can play dvd's on,especially when a lot of people still have'nt got a single dvd player!
