  1. I've been converting Xvid movie some time ago. Now I have this
    movie (About a boy).
It's Xvid encoded with MP3 VBR.

When I play the movie Windows Media Player 9, there seems no problem.
    Audio is in synch!
When I'm playing the movie in VirtualDub 1.4.13, there is an audio synch
    problem!

Thried to convert MP3 directly to .WAV with VirtualDub and then
seperately convert the movie in TmpgEnc.
Also tried out the VirtualDub option "Synch video to audio" and
so the movie gets another framerate than 23.976
But I keep getting audio synch's!!!

    Help me! It's killin me!

    • Extract the audio stream with VirtualDub (Direct stream copy, save WAV).
      Rename aab.wav to aab.mp3.
Convert (decode) aab.mp3 to aab.wav with CDEX or WinAmp.
      Set VirtualDub to "no audio"
Use aab.avi as vide source to TMPGEnc
Use you newly created aab.wav as audio source.
Make sure you use the same frame rate in TMPGEnc as your AVI has.

  3. Do not use WinAmp as a converter to wav . Some versions, if not all, are reported (I tried that myself) to give back wav files that are shorter or longer than the original wav file .

Use a really good and standart editor like CoolEdit, would be my advice . It is also very helpful in other editing aspects related to desynch .

Also, VDub cant handle VBR MP3 correctly . Use the VirtualDub Mod (www.doom9.org), which can .

Didn't know that WinAmp isn't exact in its mp3 to wav conversion.
As I suggested direct stream copy - save WAV, it doesn't matter what version of VDub you use, as VDub just spits out the audio stream without even looking at it. May it be VBR MP3, AC3 or any other kind of audio encoding method. The key is that you then use the correct "??? to wav" decoder for whatever encoding ??? is.

  5. The WinAmp thing is really true . Up to 2.72 at least .
I do not know about the new 3.x versions .

I just suggested the VDub Mod as it generally handles audio better than VDub, and thus there are less error occasions . But yes, as long as you dont want to save to a new video, VBR MP3 is not a problem with the normal VDub .
