i am really interested in picking up an Matrox RT.X10 Capture Card but this will be my first time buying an additonal piece of Hardware for my computer so i have a couple questions.

first, will i need a video camera in order to capture footage because i don't have one??

i have absoultely no idea of how i would install it, someone told me i need a empty PCI slot but i don't even what that is, could you tell how install it in my computer?

what exactly do they mean i can edit my videos without rendering?

all i want to be able to do is install a capture card in my computer then i want to be able capture some footage off of my Playstation 2 and make a video then put it on the web without the use of a camcorder, so what would i need to do that. i understand i need the capture card but i have no idea of what to look for, someone recommended the Matrox RT.X10 to me and it seems very good to me but i have no knowledge whatsoever about Videocards, like i said before i wouldn't even know how to install it or undertsand it for that matter. i just want a capture card that i can install and understand very easily because i'm not i real expert when it comes to this, so would the Matrox RT.X10 be good for me. i need a capture card very soon but i am completely stuck because i have no idea of what to do or look for.

i don't care about the price it could be up to $600.00 for all i care, i just need one of the best ones on the market that would be easy to understand for someone who doesn't have any knowledge about Video Cards, Capture Cards...etc

the main reason i need it is because i want to be able to capture footage off of my Playstation 2 and make a video without the use of a camcorder.

should i get the Matrox RT.X10 or should i get another one and which one would you recommend.

    Thank You So Much

  2. Tried several things myself, getting out of sync picture and sound, problems with system resources etc. until I read about the Canopus ADC100 converter. If you have a firewire port on your PC and a fair size hard drive (13Gb per hour), then this external box is the easiest way I know to get good quality results without being a PC expert. Excellent results. Check the topic on this site. Note the number of happy users. I paid the equivalent of 400 dollars for this, but probably cheaper in US.

  4. The Canopus ADVC 100 can capture from a console (PS2/XBOX/DC/etc) with very good results. I have an ADVC 100 and it is the best capture device I have ever used!!! I was capturing video with great results a couple of minutes after opening the box- and this device never has any problems with audio/video sync, no matter how long your capture is.

Of course, DV capture takes a lot of disk space. After I purchased this, I wen t out and got another 120GB drive. I paid 260 for the ADVC 100(new) and 99 for a 120gb 7200 rpm drive. If you are looking for an inexpensive capture solution, this is not it. If you have the money to spend though, the Canopus is the way to go.

On the left side of your screen, you will see a series of topics. Scroll down until you see "Capture Cards" and click on it. Then do a search for your Canopus card and see how it's rated, and see what people say about it.

That should answer your questions about what OS it works with, what connections it has, and how easy it is to install and use.

If you are not sure how to install a PCI card, find a computer store that will do it for you or go to your local library or bookstore and pick up a book on PC upgrades. My local library is in the ghetto, and even *they* have a book on upgrading PC's.

If you are not sure where to get it, go to www.pricewatch.com and do a search for it, they will provide you with dozens of dealers who are in hot competition for your business.

anything else? would you like one of us to come and install it for you?

i don't know what to look for, like i said this will be my first time buying an additional piece of hardware on my computer.

i just want a capture card that - is compatible with XP, i can hook my Playstation 2 up to, has real time effects like picture in picture and page curls, that is easy to install and understand for a beginner, and if possible comes with adobe premiere

  8. Premiere is not a program for beginners. I would suggest Ulead VS 7.0 for a beginner. The ADVC-100 is a good card and yes you can hook your PS2 to it or anyother video equipment that uses analog video cables. It does not come with any software. The ADVC-100 converts the video in DV. You can then edit the DV with Premiere or Ulead VS 7.0 or whatever else that you wish to use. You can even use Windows Movie Maker for editing.

The Canopus ADVC-100 will do exactly what you are looking for. The rest of the stuff you are wanting to do is going to take some time to learn. This site is your biggest and best source of information, but, I will tell you - if you don't want to take the time to learn (there is no one stop shopping in the land of video at present), stick to playing the games. That's not meant to be mean, merely a fact.

Let me see if I get this. You understand how to find this site, and register to post, and post in the forums.

But you can't understand how to read or search or locate the massive section on capture cards? Even when you're told where to look and how to look for it?

I understand that everybody is a newbie at first, that no one is born knowing this stuff.... hell, I'm more a newbie than most here, and I learn something new off this site every day.

But until I've searched high and low in the forums, guides and other info, I don't post questions. And I certainly don't ignore when people reply telling me "look here", and post the same question again.

What that says to everyone is "you know, I'm WAY TOO IMPORTANT to look anything up - even if you tell me where to look. Just tell me how to do it."

You want a lot of good info? You can find it here. You want everyone to do it all for you? Hire somebody... and be prepared to pay.

Better yet, follow what Mecq said and stick to your Playstation.

  11. Seems to me that a Matrox card is quite pricey to do such an easy task. For 45 bucks you can buy a cheap capture card that will capture your PS games.

Then Windows Movie Maker will do the editing that you want, AND export it for web use.

But if budget permits have fun with the Matrox card. It will do what you want.
