  1. If I capture from a MiniDV tape, everything goes well and 0 frames are dropped, everything perfect. If I use the analog passthru function and connect my 8mm camcorder to my Panasonic PV-DV901, I get quite a few dropped frames and out of sync sound. The 8mm tape has quite a bit of noise, so I am not particularly surprised. The question is: Is it normal to drop frames in analog passthru with noisy source? I have heard that DV should never drop frames.

Again all my captures from MiniDV tape go without a framedrop and I have 1.6Ghz P4 with 512M RAM, UATA133 7200 120GB drive just for capture. No unecessary programs running. I have captured with DVIO and Scenalyzer with the same result.

    Thank you

  2. I have run into issues with dropped frames. I have 2 different VCRs and one does auto correcting (will auto adjust the tracking) and the other will just play it thru. And the VCR that just plays it thru has less frame dropping. So the less noise, less frame drops, and IMHO the less autoadjusting the less frame drops. I have also seen different DV capture SW handle frame drop differently. So you might want to see which of your SW captures video and see if one does it better (I have 3 video capture/edit programs (one from my burner, one from my firewire card and one from the DV converter)
    Cendyne/Pioneer 105 & 104 with a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Bridge.

  3. Thanks. That sure makes sense. This camcorder has a built in TBC and when the frames are dropped, you can see that the camcorder was trying to stabilize the image.
