I bought the Pioneer DVR-A05 unit about two months ago and have yet to watch a DVD burned on it. I had a video I made in Adobe Premiere and exported as MPG2 with Pinnacle's software.
Then I used the MyDVD from Sonic which came with the unit to burn the movie. The MyDVD software said everything went fine - but when I went to play it I got this exact error from the Sonic Cineplayer:
"The DVD Key exchange for copy protection has failed. Playback is not possible."
I tried playing it on the DVMatics player and got a similar error.
Sooo - I downloaded Ulead's DVD Movie factory trial version - and tried with that. Once again the software said everything went fine, but I got exactly the same error.
I called the place I bought the player and they sent me off to Pioneer - who couldn't be bothered to ever call me back. So I called the place I bought it again (The Video Guys) who had no clue how to help me and suggested I come and post here.
So here I am![]()
I sure hope someone here can help me - I feel like I really wasted a lot of money.
By the way, I burned the movie on the 4x DVD-RW that came with the unit (Pioneer's disc) so I wouldn't have an expensive coaster. It would not play in my set top box either.
The Pioneer unit plays factory movies beautifully - yet I wonder if there is some setting (which I have searched for but cannot find) which needs to be changed.
Thank you in advance.
Tom
PS - I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware release from Pioneer 1.21

I have had the same problem, and i am also using an AO5U, i havent yet solved the problem but here is what i know. Sonic uses a key exchange program to verify copies of disks played in its software. When you author a dvd using most programs it doesnt add a key at all, sonic sees this and determines (erronously) that it is an unauthorized reproduction and refuses to play it. If youcould somehow add a key to your dvd even if it was 000000 or somthing that would probably fix the problem. Anyone know of such a program?
Get Back To Me Through E-Mail if appropriate -
If that's actually the case uninstalled MyDVD and get another authoring program. There are several (look to the left under author). D/load DVD Lab (it's a fully functional 30day trail), or if all you want is movie (no menus/extras) try IFOEdit (freeware).

Did anyone every resolve this? I have a new Pioneer 105 drive and I captured a home movie via VHS through my camcorder...but when I burn it gives me the key exchange crap. Also will not play on my standalone?
