  1. Hi 2 all....

I am curentlly using Canopus Procoder at highest quality (2 pass vbr, 10bit) for my dv video to convert them to mpeg for DVD-r

I want to try CCE 2.5 cause i heard great things about it.

Please someone tell me what settings should i use for converting dv avi pal to mpeg2 file (for dvd-r) , my videos are always:

    -- PAL DV (type 2)
-- 1 HOUR OF VIDEO (so i'm using the HIGHEST BITRATE)

Please someone give me detail settings for BEST PICTURE QUALITY

Thank you in advance and please excuse my poor eblgish

If you were using a newer version I could. The oldest I have is 2.64, so some of these settings may or may not be in your version

Quantization Matrices: Set this to Standard, or MPEG-Standard
Select ZigZag scanning Order if your source is progressive (non-interlaced)
    Intra DC Block Precision ( 10 )
Set your quantization slider to 5 or less (5 is a good setting)
Use Multipass VBR (I would suggest a minimum of 3 passes)
Use a high 'Average' setting (at least 6000). Also, make sure you 'clean' your input video before you try to encode it. Use a temporal smoother, or a good 2-D Cleaner (they are available for both VirtualDub, and AVISynth).
Set your MAX bitrate to 9800Kb/s
Set your MIN to 0, or 300

I never heard of "clean" before... does it make dv avi better???

By 'clean', I mean run your AVI through a filter. You can filter them with a temporal smoother, or a 2-D cleaner, or a spatial cleaner. They can remove 'noise' from your source file, although a pure digital source won't suffer from these affects as much as an analog source (like VHS). From your post, it sounds like these are pure digital, so you won't benefit from them as much. It depends on the quality of your Cam.

Try encoding without them, as see if your satisfied with the result. The good thing about CCE, is it doesn't take days of work to experiment.

Are your captures already in a standard DVD resolution, or will you have to resize?

  5. Yes my captures are always in dvd resolution (capture using scenilyzer live).

My camcorder is sony dcr-pc101e and my videos are always PAL (dv avi).

If the capture quality is good, and their already in DVD resolution, just drag and drop it directly into CCE. Don't worry about filtering.

I'm a born again CCE user. Once you see it's speed, and quality, it's an easy sell. I've never used Procoder.

  9. Ok so............

    1) I captured my video (using scenalizer)
    2) Edited in Sonic Foundry Vegas and rendered as dv avi pal (as i always do)
    3) Opened cinemacraft encoder
    4) Adjusted all the settings
    5) Finished

and now i have a video that has a logo on the top left that says CANOPUS.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY????? I tried 2.50 and 2.62 version of cce but no luck.

    Any suggestions?

  10. and now i have a video that has a logo on the top left that says CANOPUS.
I had the same problem and nobody replied!!!......anyway, I was able to fix it. The logo appears because another codec has overwritten the canopus DV codec....if you open this file using VirtualDub, you will notice that the codec is actually "something canopus" DVBooster. I did a search in the registry under "canopus" and was able to locate a "dll" file that was that codec and deleted it. After that, I went ahead and re-install the canopus dv codec and everything went back to normal. Of course I can't remember the name of the file but I might try to simulate the problem again.....I think it happens because of Procoder.....PM me if you want more info.....

    good luck!

  11. Thank you for your reply...

I installed a minute ago the PANASONIC dv codec and the logo dissapeared !!!!

I hope that doesn't effect procoder or something else!!!

I hope that everything else will work as they did before....

Thank you both for your help
