My final problem (i hope)![]()
Trying to frameserve from vdub to mc to get around the aspect ratio problem, mc creates the new mpeg but with sound, but no video, just a green screen.
Tried different versions of vdub, vdubmod & nandub with same results.
Surely it cant be a codec problem, cos original file plays fine on media player & bs player.
Tried video only and it encoded a 200mb avi file to a 12mb mpg file![]()
Any ideas?![]()

Donwload and install a new Xvid codec and try again.
I had the same problem a few days ago -
Yes, sounds like an XviD issue. Try ffdshow too, if a new XviD codec doesn't do the trick.

I used to have this problem until someone pointed suggested changing the Matrix Coefficients to FCC.
See https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145588&highlight= for more information -
I just tried installing xvid codec then ffdshow but still same problem and
i cant change the Matrix Coefficients to FCC because its greyed out.
And to top it all off the original avi file wont play now, thats just showing a green screen now
Maybe it is a codec problem then, what do i do now, i've now got nimo codec pack installed, divx 5, xvid and god knows what else.
What should i do now -
4cc changer should do it.

Ahh... Nimo... Don't touch it! And do absolutely not install it. I did, and almost had to reformat my drive. Uninstall Nimo. Carefully uninstall every codec that's not part of your Windows install, then selectively install the codecs that GSpot tells you you are missing. No more, no less.
Use Control Panel, Sound and Multimedia, Hardware (??? at least that's the translation for my Swedish localisation of Windows 2000), Video-CODEC, Properties, then Properties tab.
Here you see DivX5, XviD, VFAPI and Video Server Wrapper Codec (From VirtualDub I think...)

I've had good success on frinds computers by removing FFDSHOW and installing XviD and DivX. Some apps use the codec and some use FFDSHOW. Specifically I believe VDUB needs the codecs while Mplayer and other players use FFDShow. Hence "It plays fine in (my) player but I can't convert/frameserve/encode it. I do believe that TMPG will use FFDshow, but you have to tweak the priority setting.

Trouble is i have even more trouble with Tmpgenc with jerky playback and illegal mpeg audio stream errors.
Uninstalled nimo and other codecs and installed xvid & divx but its still the same.
I will try using mats.hogberg gspot method later but im getting really fed up now.
I might just sell the damn dvd writer and dvd player and buy an xbox to play them in avi format, its just too much messing about
Thanks for your help tho. -
I'd say a downloaded AVI is 99.9% of the time not worthy as source material for a DVD anyway. (S)VCD possibly.
It may be that I'm otherwise too busy, but I can find less and less patience trying to convert stubborn AVIs. Why spend days (apart from the sheer excitement!) at trying to convert a movie, when there's a DVD shop right around the corner if I really want to see that particular film? Possibly if it's not for sale (yet/any more) but that's about the only reason I can think of... I should think that whatever your occupation, (even mowing the lawn for your parents) wherever you live - please corect me if I'm wrong!, 8 hours spent working instead of converting would buy you the real thing!

Finally fixed Wooooooooo Hooooooooo after using gspot i found missing codecs so i installed the k-lite codec pack 1.9 and now it works!
Thanks everyone for helping me out.
