Is there a way to turn .ogg files into MP3? There is this site that offers free music but they don't have MP3s anymore, only .ogg. And when I play the .ogg files in Winamp while browsing the web, the browser gets very slow and very annoying. So I was wondering if there is a way to convert .ogg files into MP3s?

Well, it says here at this tutorial site:

"The "Ogg" part refers to the Ogg Project, an Open Source multimedia initiative; "Vorbis" is the name of the actual audio compression format. Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format that sounds better than MP3, and, you guessed it, it's Open Source. For now suffice it to say that Ogg Vorbis is comparable to compression formats such as AAC, TwinVQ, PAC and MPEG-4."

I've found more info on the .ogg music file. Anyway I got a link to download the .ogg to mp3 converter, not free though.

I have already tried that. It only rips from CDs, my .ogg files are on my hard drive and it doesn't have an option of getting the files from my hard drive.

Are you using the latest version of cdex? I think file conversion like is a relatively recent addition.

In any case, besweet (again, I think you need a recent version to support ogg vorbis) is probably the best way to convert files from ogg to mp3 in one shot. If you're handy with scripting you can easily write a script to automatically convert all the ogg files in a directory to mp3 files. Be aware that it might take a while, if you're having trouble playing ogg files it sounds like you probably have a slower computer.

  9. With CDex you have to convert to wav first("Convert Compressed Audio file to Wav")Then convert to mp3.

What do I do after I converted it to WAV? There is no option for WAV>>MP3!

  14. Sakuya,what are you using?
If it is CDex then you need to go to Configure,Encoder, then select MP3 and your bitrate. Then select "Convert Wav to Compressed Audio file".
If you are using BeSweet I don't know,I never could figure out their GUI.

Yes, I'm using CDex. It was already set at MP3. So I just clicked to WAV>>Compressed Audio File. So it worked, there are MP3 files now and they play smoothly. But, I did not mess with the bitrates. How do I know what bitrate to enter?

  16. Configure or Settings,Encoder, then select Lame MP3 and your bitrate.
I recommend at least 192kbps,CBR,J-Stereo for best sound.CBR because it will play on any stand-alone and J-Stereo because Lame encoder is optimized for it.
