  1. How come when i convert a 10 min 23.976fps avi in MainConcept, it is only 8 mins long on my dvd player, it must be speeding it up.

    These are my settings:

    Mpeg type: DVD
    Stream type: Program (Video+Audio)

    Video:
    Frame rate: 23.976fps
    Field encode: progressive
    De-intelace: none

    Advanced video:
Frame rate: 23.976fps-NTSC encapsulated film rate
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Pulldown: 3:2

    Are these settings correct?
    Where am i going wrong?

Im ready for giving up on DVD encoding, after ditching Tmpgenc because of illegal mpeg audio errors while encoding and intermitent sound on playback!

    Please somebody help me!

    Problem fixed now thanks everybody

  2. Does the whole clip play in your dvd player? In other words is something missing from the clip? have you noticed any "jerking" of the video during playback? Lastly, are you frameserving to Main Concept?

  3. The whole clip plays fine, nothing missing and it is very smooth. (not too worried about the stretch to fullscreen yet until i sort this)

I am using moviefactory 1 to author this 10min test clip from a full movie, it shows up as being a 10 min long mpeg with a 29.970 frame rate.

I am not frameserving from vdub at the moment, should i be?
Is it because its now playing at 29.970fps when it was originally a 23.976?

    Thanks!

  5. Well it seems that my DVD player is reporting the running time wrong, because it does take 10 mins to play in realtime, weird! it never did that with Tmpgenc.

So what about the aspect ratio, i pick 16:9 in MC but it still stretches it to full screen, i have a letterbox movie that i would like to trim the sides a little and have a small border at the top & bottom, so as to appear as a widescreen movie on a 4:3 TV.

Do i have to do this in vdub, i thought the 16:9 setting would do this in mc?

    Thanks again!

  6. It is possible that by encoding at a low bitrate the video play time will appear to be less than it really is. By encoding at a higher bitrate the video will actually show the play time to be higher than it really is. This is common with svcds. A low bitrate may be why your dvd player thinks the film is only 8 minutes long instead of 10. As far as the aspect ratio, frameserve from virual dub and use the smart resize filter. You should be able to preserve the aspect ratio using this.

  7. I have been trying to frameserve with vdub but more problems all i end up with is a file 1/10th of the size it should be, the mpeg plays the sound fine but with just a green screen (no video)!

Any ideas to solve this, somebofy mentioned changing the matrix coef. to fcc but its greyed out for DVD.

    Again, help!

    Thanks!

  8. The file you have may have been compressed with a codec that is not available on your computer system. Do you know what codec was used when making the film, and is it installed on your sytem?

  10. @tonyrobbo

are u using ifoedit to author?

FYI there is a bug in ifoedit that when u do author a NTSC progressive clip with pulldown ran on it, it comes out only 80% of its original length, the wierd part is that it appears to play at normal speed and the audio remains in synch!! I fiest read about it in the thread

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124578&start=840&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

or do a search for "ifoedit bug" here or at doom9.org

in short: for the time being we decided to author in DVD Maestro instead of ifo edit.
