I have an IEE1394 used for capturing from a SONY digital Camera. I have never had problems with capture. Using VEGAS video and video factory. NO problem.

All of a sudden, after filming a wedding and trying to capture the video, I get clicks, drop outs (no dropped frame though) and then it goes into TOTAL stutter mode.

Help !!! I have tried the following:
    Update Drivers

Rolled back my system (via a clone drive) to over a week ago when I know all was working

    Reseated all cards

The only thing I can think of is my FIREWIRE has gone bad....Dont think/not sure it is software.

It will capture fine for a moment or even for 5 to 10 minutes. Then I will hit something that makes it STUTTER like.

This is viewing also, not just capture so it is not a hard drive. And playing on the camcorder it looks great.

The only other thing new is a newer faster P4 (2.4 533 mhz).

So , how do I test the firewire short of just buying another one ?

I have ruled out hard drive, Vegas software and drivers.

PLEASE HELP. This is my business and before this occurance, capture was a breeze

Just a couple of suggestions. Have you tried the firewire out on another computer? OR download a capture program called DVIO ( look for it in "tools" under "capture". It's very simple and if that doesn't work it must be a firewire problem. Best of luck.

Well, tried the DVIO and sure as heck, same issue on that part of the tape. It comes and goes. But as I said it is not the tape. The tape plays BEAUTIFUL on that camcorder and I have another, Hitachi, plays there too. But the both are having the same result on capture.

So you think thats pretty indicative of the firewire gone bad ? Is that common ? I mean it was a cheap card (15 dollars) so maybe I need to go ADS or Belkin ? Any recommends ? This one had a TI chip uggg.

I dont want to get a card and have the same or NEW issues.

Again my thanks and suggestions welcome.

Okay, bought a new FIREWIRE today (Belkin) and will test tonight. I am however. wondering if it is an IRQ issue. I recently updated motherboard BIOS. WHen I checked yesterday, IRQ for firewire was shared with Video card. Not good.

I move dthe card, etc..and it went to the PCI bus controller..Not good either.

How am I going to force this thing to its own.......

    Sigh...
