DVD Decrypter: ISO vs DVD file - what's the difference?

I am ripping from a single-layer DVD using
DVD Decrypter ISO read mode.

I get two output files that I can use to burn to DVD-R:

*.DVD file
*.ISO file

Which one should I use to create my DVD-R?

It seems that both methods work, but the file
sizes are different. What accounts for the difference
in file size? When would I use the *.DVD over the *.ISO?

I have read the guides and stickies and I know that most people use the *.ISO file, but I want to know what the *.DVD file does...and why it produces a different file size than when I use the *.ISO file.

Basically, you can use ISO mode if the image is within the size limits (around 4.3Gigs or around 1Hr/40Min. of footage) of fitting on one DVD-R. An ISO is basically an exact reproduction of the original disc than can be burned to a DVD-R. You can use both Record Now Max and Nero to burn an image. (I have and use both burning programs. By the way, all of the DVD-Rs I have burned in Nero work just fine.) Anyways...

File mode is best used when the movie is dual layered and will most certainly exceed 4.7Gigs. I used DVDDecrypter, then Ifoedit 0.95 and burn just the main movie with Nero/Record Now Max. I tested IMGtools last night and it successfully burned Half Past Dead (movie only).

Just be aware that sometimes even the main movie will not fit onto one disc. I am not bothered by losing some extra material as long as I have the main feature.

Ideally, ISO is the way to go, but file mode allows you to make some modifications and customizations. I'm really new at this, but hopes this made some sense to you.

I doubt most people use iso mode in dvd decrypter as the majority of dvd films are too big to make an dvd decrypter iso of.
A good combination for you might be dvd decrypter then dvd2one.

You guys are totally missing the guy's question... He wants to know why DVD Decrypter made 2 different files and when to use either one. I encounter that *.DVD file before. It was very long ago and I can't quite remember which I chose, but I remember when loading them on DVD Decrypter, one show different size to be burn than the other one. So my suggestion would be, burn the one that gives you the biggest size.

The only question I need answered is:
When to use *.DVD file instead of *.ISO file.

If the ISO file is a true image, then why is the
*.DVD file bigger than the accompanying *.ISO file?
