  1. I hate having to start a new thread but i really want to get this point across. I'm pretty sure there are certain software incompatabilities with instantcopy. I have been having trouble backing up alot my films. Ofcourse everybodies first response to this is "there are some dvd's that it can't backup". Its great that people are saying what films won't backup, (please post that to the correct thread started for dvd's instantcopy doesn't like), But we need to figure out the other problems with this software if it is to get anybetter. Pinnacle isn't going to be much help on this. they made it clear that thier software doesn't get beyond copy protection. Since we have to use a thirdparty decryption tool, their favorite answer to errors is simply that it wasn't meant to copy retail DVD's. Now on to what i found:

I thought it strange that i was having trouble copying discs that others had no trouble with. I checked regions with people. Same regions, same disc. I took the disks that were giving me "floating point errors" on my asus machine and tried it on my other machine- a stripped down Abit BE6 PIII800mhz that i use for a HTPC. Both run XP sp1. No problems on that machine. SO i dual boot on the Asus, slap on another version of XP sp1. Again install my retail version of instantcopy (and through this I use the same rip of Mr. Deeds that previosly failed on the asus but worked on the abit) load up only preset dvd-r (as i did with all my tests) and it worked fine. SO now i get to find out which programs differ between my installs. I had a ghost image of the Asus XP OS that I made right after reinstalling the OS and all my programs. Thinking that maybe it was something i had done or added after that image was made. I loaded up that image, installed INstant copy and tried again. It failed. So as of now my best guess is that something installed is causing my errors. the sad fact of the matter is that I have a lot of programs to have to rule out. Does this sound like a good place to start. My thought is that i can pretty much rule out hardware and driver probs since these installs are in the same machine. Anyone else make notice of when there problems started?

  2. Hello,
I have been trying for the last few days since I received my full copy of IC7 to backup some ~9 gb DVDs to ~4.7 gb DVD-R. I followed Baldrick's guide, and I have referenced the guides on "Deano's site" and Mr. Bass.org . However, IC7 freezes up during the "testing video quality" phase (very quickly after beginning the re-encoding process). I have left it on for several hours with no progress from this frozen point. The preview window goes black, and I am stuck in phase 1 of 3. Everything works great until then.
I have verified that I have the "discdata" folder, I have tried it with and without the reghack (verified through the registry). I have tried it on "The Killers" criterion (both discs) and "Sweet Charity" with the exact same result. I have uninstalled the program (and cleared the registry) and reinstalled the program. I have tried it with and without utilizing the "oversizing" f5 trick. I have also tried using ASAPI, and then ASPI. I also have the most current version (ending ...91). I am using a P3 700 Celeron with 384 mb RAM and a Panasonic LDF-310 recorder (running Win ME). IC7 recognizes all of my equipment, but I haven't gotten to the burning stage yet. DVD Decrypter has been working fine for me with 4.3 GB ISO burns, and appears to have worked fine with the "File" decryption.
Is there something different I can try to stop this freezing? Any help is greatly appreciated as I would really like to use this program. I am moving to a better computer later, but would like to use this software now.

  3. hmmm... i haven't had the freezing up on either of my machines, but i did come a bit farther with my other problem. I decided against reinstalling XP and then adding everything step by step. I'm just going to live with dual booting into win2k for IC. without my other burning and authoring programs it doesnt' have a problem.
heres the funny thing that happened though. After reinstalling IC , I rebooted and elbycheck popped up saying that drivers had changed. it wanted to reinstall something. I let elbycheck (clonecd4) do its thing, reboot and then I lost IC. there folder was there and some files, but something had changed to the effect that it no longer had an icon (just a generic shortcut icon0 in the menu. Someone else verify if IC plays nice with clone cd 4. Also at that point, I lost my DVD-r drive in Record now, but it found my other burners. Clone cd of course found the dvd-r and the the cd-r. funny how these programs fight for attention.

I take it you disabled 'online transcoding database'. Also did you delete both of your discdata files? Something to try. P3 700 Celeron..hmm I thought only 800Mhz Celerons and above had SSE. Oh well little what I know.

  5. turbanjones, it seems like you and I are the only ones having this Floating point error problem. I have searched all the Forums and also posted at Pinnacle, but with no success.

In my case, everything was running fine with the Trial version. But after I installed the full version, I have been getting this Floating point error on just about every DVD I tried to process, including the ones that worked before. I have uninstalled and installed several times both versions and it is very consistent. The trial version would work fine and the full version would not, and they are both version 7.0.0.91.

I have most of the CD and DVD software loaded, but not clonecd4. So that is not the source of the conflict. I have an AMD 1700+ with Abit MB, Sony DRU-500A, running Windows XP pro. I will have to try a fresh install of WinXP and see if I can isolate the conflict.

  6. Best of luck. I have an asus av7333, DRU-500A, 512 meg ddr ram, 1800XP AMD, XP pro w Sp1. I'm absolutley convinced its software rather than hardware. DId you install of the software with your sony DVD writer? I installed everysingle thing, even the DLA program you had to download as well as any updates for any of the programs. There was at one point a conflict with something i installed (record now dx)with any existing program i had installed. It resulted in having to reinstall record now dx. BUt since I have every burning program imaginable it has still been hopeless for me. with MY dvd, videopack 5, DVD it, record now, record now DX, simple backup, arcbackup showbiz, dvdone, impression dvd...i don't know. its gonna take me some time. if you find a winning combination, please post and then maybe i'll try removing some select programs.

  7. I was able to fix my problem. All i had to do was uninstall every dvdrelated program. I previosly listed my programs. After that, I reinstalled mydvd and instantcopy. Instant copy worked fine after that. I'll just reinstall programs as i need them and then check to see if i lose instant copy again. Thanks to all. By the way, i did try everything mentioned above, but nothing except removing programs helped. I also reinstalled arcvideo (which installs with mydvdart of the package sent out with sony dru-500) and videopack 5.1. everything is still fine
