I've been trying to get xp to recognize the correct harddrive size but i can't seem to get it to do it . My bios recognizes that i have a 40 and 60 gig harddrive but win xp only recognizes on 31.4 gigs on both. Just wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this problem or suggestion on somewhere to look for help.

Are you using FAT or NTFS ? I believe you can only create a drive / partition with a maximum size of 32Gb when using the FAT file system in Windows XP. Try using the NTFS file system, this should allow much larger drives.

If you have Award BIOS 4.5x, see the Ontrack Data International solution for 33GB BIOS lock-up. ( http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/bios338gb1.htm )
The Disk Manager utility it talks about is for IBM drives (which are now Hitachi).
Other Disk Overlays are available from the differnt manufacturers (such as MaxBlast3 for Maxtor drives)
-Hope this points you in the right direction----------
