  1. Okay, I went to Circuit City and got a panasonic dmr-hs2. I just love the idea of having a dvd w/ a hard drive to put my shows on. No tapes to worry about. I will never miss my soaps! Ha! Problem of coarse is the copy right protection. I have lots of store bought tapes that I want to make them into dvd's before they get any more flawed (they get worse w/ excessive watching over time). My made for tv movies are fine cause I taped them myself, but my store bought tapes get a message that says I'm not allowed to copy my own tape! I'm sorry but I paid for the darn thing! I ought to be able to do whatever I want w/ it!

Question is of coarse is there a relatively inexpensive way to get around that copy right crap? I'll only get so far before I run out of stuff that isn't store bought and then my magic machine will be a pooper! HELP!

    And thanks!

Get one of these. You just plug in the S-Video or composite video cord through this enhancer devise which conects to your DVD recorder. It has to be plugged in and it does work very effectively. Here is a picture. It is called the SIMA Copy Master. They are about $40 on average. Circuit City used to carry them, but you can get them elsewhere.

Congradulations on your new purchase. Make sure you get high quality DVD-Rs like Verbatim or TDK. Trust me, you don't want to record your movies all over again b/c of an incompatible DVD-R. But you have a hard drive, so you should'nt have to worry about that. If I were you though, I would highly consider Circuit City's Extended Warranty which is $50 for 3 years. I had a DVD player fail on me, the warranty kicked in and they gave me $270 credit for my DVD player. I was able to purchase something I wanted plus a new DVD player because DVD players were much cheaper one year later.

  3. Thanks for the info. I actually paid the extra $40 and got a 5yr warranty for $99 I think it was. I've heard good things about Circuit City's warranties, so I paid a little more for the recorder going to the store, but you can't beat a 30 day guarantee it if you're not happy and a 5yr replacement. If it bombs on me in 3 or 4 yrs I can replace it and if it doesn't then I figure I will have gotten my moneys worth by that time. Either way I win!

    Thanks again for the help!
