I use SmartRipper v2.41 on backup mode to do all my DVD ripping. And 99% of the time it has worked fine, except on this one DVD.

I just can't ripp it for anything,no matter which setting i use under backup mode.It always ends up stopping when it hits about 96%.Then that little area to the right says there are a certain number of broken blocks and i just can't get any further.

Any suggestions on what to do?

  2. Try using DVD Decrypter instead. You also might check to see if the DVD you are trying to copy doesn't have encryption to begin with. I have a disc like this and Smart Ripper has trouble trying to find the right "key" to unlock the encryption (mainly because there isn't any). You can turn the "decryption off" in options and then what you'll be doing is using Smart Ripper just to copy files to your Hard Drive as region free VOBS and IFOs. Anyway, if I'm off base about the encryption issue, it could be the DVD is damaged....have you tried playing it in your stand alone player or software DVD player? Does it freeze at a certain point? Another idea is to rip to an image file and then decrypt from that file...just a few ideas.

  3. Yeah, most likely it's damaged... my pc dvd does that sometimes with old scratched dvd's but it still plays well on my stand alone. go figure.

Ok i got it now.I still have not figured out a way to get it to ripp properly. But i figured i'd just go ahead and ripp it as far as it would go and then go ahead and burn the files that i could get to a DVD-R.Hopeing to at least end up with a DVD-R that was 96% playable with a couple of unplayable stuff.

So after i was done ripping what i could,i went and removed those 1-2 files with the broken blocks that could'nt be rippd properly. In much the same way that you would manually remove extras.

And after i burned the disc it all works fine! I was expecting to have at least a few parts of the DVD that were unplayable. But everything is intact.Weird huh? Still not sure what those unrippable files were but they could not have been that important.

Yeah i know what you mean about the encryption stuff. But usually whenever something is not encrypted, smartripper detects it and continues ripping properly without trying to search for the keys.

  6. That's strange...my Smart Ripper hangs up when it can't find a key. I wonder if mine's an older version. I'll see if there's a newer version out there. Thanks....at least it's nice to know that other people can rip non-encrypted discs with Smart Ripper.
