defence i don't know why you are havin all these problems with GHR7,since i upgraded to it have been very pleased a dvd9 starts ripping at around 3.5-4.5x then constantly builds up speed to about 10-11x although i have had some rips that only go to 6.5-7x,but overall very pleased to rip a full dvd9 under 15mins sometimes 10-11 mins & to rip a dvd5 in 5mins is great.....
Yea, I'm doing the same, but that to me is a HUGE PROBLEM because If you read my above posts you will see that I was getting up to 15.4x ripping speeds off of DVD-5's and that was REGULARLY! I was also building up to a 12x average with DVD-9's. Now the damn drive is starting out slow and increasing SLOW. Even though I've gotten it up to 8x on DVD-5's, that's still almost 50% slower then it was PRIOR to the upgrade. I was ripping DVD-5's in LESS THEN FIVE MINUTES REGULARLY! I know it could be worse, and I asked for this by screwing around.

That's ok though, because if there is ANY positive, it is the fact that ALL media in ALL formats reads SUPER QUICK now. I'm hoping with a little bit of time and usage, my rip speeds will increase. If not, oh well, it's a lot better then getting to the point today where my drive wasn't even detected in Windows anymore. By the way, I'm now staying with one of the "binary" versions of GHR7. It is Region Free as well as shows as "LITEON 163D) in Device Manager, as opposed to that JMRS crap.

I doubt you will be able to get that drive to rip any faster. Splash out a few notes on a LiteOn drive and you will not be dissapointed

So THEN I download MTKWINFLASH, MERGE the two.BIN files together within DOS because MTKWINFLASH does NOT handle dual.bin files..and finally I get my drive recognized again with the hacked GHR6 version of the firmware...but once again, GHR6 is just like GHR7 where I rip at about 4x or so. At least I got my drive recognized again..but this has been crazy. AGain, I asked for it..no problem though...does ANYONE know where I can get version GHR3 to downgrade to? Thanks

You can use the binary version of GHR3 (its even region free) from the same page you got the binary version of GHR7 from and flash it with mtkwinflash. I have now tried GHR3,GHR6 & GHR7 and to be honest the doesn't seem too much difference although GHR3 seems to start ripping faster but for me doesn't want to go faster than 8X on a dvd9.I am on the same version you mentioned in your last post GHR7 (liteon region free) & getting upto 11X for dvd9 & 15.8 for dvd5.......

  5. I can't understand how the hell you're ripping at those speeds for DVD9 AND DVD5. Your O/S is the same as mine, and I don't know what your processor is, but mine is a 2.4 GH'z PIV. I should of never upgraded to begin with but that's ok..because I knew that ahead of time. What version of GH7 are you using? The binary or the windows version? Also, is your version Region free? Let me know please...there are THREE different GHR7's and i've tried them all...but let me know which one you are using. Thanks

When you are using DVD Decrypter press L on your keyboard to bring up the log file.

  11. Marvel, I think I just pulled something off to where I'm now getting as high as 15.6x. I just ripped a DVD-5 in 4:27, about 30 seconds faster then the report you just posted. I don't want to jinx it yet, I will report back a little later. I have a few more things to do first.

Only 2 drive bays mate liteon cd-rw in one and sony dru500ax in other one (need them both) i actually took out a dvd-rom to fit the sony...
here is another thing for anyone who is thinking of getting a sony make sure you dont have a plastic moulded front on your case the sony tray is much larger than other drives...

  13. The problem started before 5S. I upgraded to 5Q that I downloaded from liteon and I lost dma mode and went to pio mode.

  14. Here is the reply from their tech support. I haven't tried it yet:

The problem is simply the transfer mode being used by WinXP to communicate with the DVD drive. To fix it uninstalled the DVD drive and the IDE channel which it was connected to from within the device manager. After rebooting, WinXP reinstalls the IDE channel and the DVD drive and this time UDMA mode 3 is used instead of PIO mode. I believe it originally goes into PIO mode following the firware update because it reinstalls the device then as well, but the firmware does not caused a problem.

  16. I read my post and saw that for some reason what I had written didn't show up(I must have pasted over it). That didn't work for me for some reason. I changed motherboards so XP redetected the controller(I went from ali to via) but I am still stuck in pio mode.

You changed to a via board? Have you installed the VIA Hyperion drivers for you board and controller right? If not go here.

I am using the LiteON 163 at the moment, will this put mine into UDMA mode 3, it is currently using UDMA mode 2 with the 'P' firmware
