  1. So i d-loaded several movies (the new harry potter - xvid, 2x700MB) and tried to convert them to vcd. When I encode the files to MPEG1 (1150kbits/sec) in TMPEnc, the new file that's to be created is somewhere around 2700MB each. So, that's 5400MB for one movie. To me that seems a little high. previously, I've converyed dvd to vcd at 1800kbits/sec, and that was only ~1800 megs.

Why is it that these new xvid/divx files are so big? and is there a way to reduce their size to a more reasonable limit?

  2. it seems to me that tmpgenc isnt reading the files right, you should download the newest version of the XviD codec, that might work, grab it at http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

  5. I just solved this problem yesterday. You need two codecs. one is nimo and the other is ffdshow. Tmpg shouldn't have a problem reading that harry potter movie.
