  1. First let me say, I've used this program many times for all kinds of conversions without any problems.

Today, when I go to rip the sound from a DivX file, I get an error that the compression I selected (none) doesn't match the input.

When I look under file information, it says "Unknown (tag 2000)" under audio format. This is really odd. It's the same for every .avi file I open now!

I did not install anything, change any codecs, etc... The only thing was use VirtualDub last night to merge two large .avi DivX files. Could this be the cause?

    Thanks.

  2. Probably the audio of the avi is AC3
    Use Vdub AC3

...or extract the audio using direct stream copy (save wav). Rename xxx.wav that VDub saves, to xxx.ac3 and convert to wav with headac3he. It may also be mp3 - then rename to xxx.mp3 and covert to wav with Winamp or CDEX or...

  4. I'll try both suggestions, it's just that I tried extracting from files that I previously had no problems with. Now, any file I opened has the audio listed as "Unknown".

  5. try the program decompress, it decompresses the audio to uncompressed pcm and leaves the video untouched and outputs the file to xxx_pcm.avi, download it here http://legoman666.netfirms.com/decompress.zip

Sounds like a codec problem. Use Gspot (tools section) to diagnose it. Installed any new codecs lately? There may be a conflict.

  7. I installed GSpot, and opened the file. It said the codec was ac3.

What is interesting, is when I go to View>Codec Database>Audio, the first codec listed is <unknown>. I almost certainly think this is the problem, as I've ripped several of these .avi files before today.

The funny thing is, I haven't installed any other codecs in months! It only started happening after I used VirtualDub to merge two .avi files...

  8. Ok, got the codec problem fixed by running the Nimo pack again. The old files opened fine, but the new ones were still not extracting.

I used the GSpot proggie and found it was ac3 like you guys said. The only method that worked, and believe me, I tried them all, was the Decompressor program.

What a pain in the ass!
