  1. I am currently trying to back up LOTR The Fellowship Of The Ring Special Extended Edition . For some reason the subtitles for when they speak Elvish wont rip . I have tried dvddecrypter , smartripper and dvd2svcd then checked vobs with powerdvd with same result each time > NO(Elvish)SUBTITLES?? I can't see where I am going wrong and never came across this problem before in my long history of dvd back ups . Is this something new ? Or does this Special 2 dvd set need special treatment ? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated .

  2. A little research wouldn't hurt... I saw a topic like this long ago where they mentioned that you have to forced the subtitles to play if you want to see them.

  3. You can't rip the Elvish Subtitles because there are non to rip. They're in the actual movie and cannot be removed. So you're going through all this for nothing. just rip the movie as a movie and the Elvish will be there.

  4. Yes Hilikus > this is the problem > I am just trying to rip it as a movie and I would expect them to just show up but they are not I can not understand why? I must admit these subtitles look a little different to the normal ie. very digitalized . It makes me wonder wether this is new technology . I have searched through every part of this movie looking to see if they were seperate to the vob somehow but can't find anything . For some reason it is like our favourite dvd ripping programs don't see these Elvish subtitles . Please Help!!

  5. you need to rip the subs with subrip, they are in the vobs under either forced or closed caption.

once you have them you need to author them back together with your film, there is plenty of guides on this. i use maestro and make sure the subs are forced so you dont have to turn them on.

I just finished FOTR SEE a week ago and the subs for elvish speaking are definitely not encoded into the video stream. They are a separate subtitle stream from all the others. and must be stripped to work. I used DVD Decryptor to rip the subs. If you're only going to keep the elvish subs make sure you remap them to the first ID.

I'm afraid your way of the mark and are totally wrong hilikus, they are there, you just gotta find the right one's.

Amon i had the same problem when i was trying to back up LOTR Fellowship extended version.

They way i got around it was if you only want them subtitles, Rip the vob files to your harddrive using DVD Decrypter.

Startup IFOEDIT, load the IFO up, Click on the Vob Extras button, select a directory to save to the hit ok, on the Next screen choose whatever Audio you want, AND FOR THE ELVISH SUBTITLES YOU CHOOSE THE--->

    Subpicture 2 English(2 bit rle)(ID: 0x25,0x22).

Then Hit the strip it button, Put a check in the Vob Box on the next screen and press the strip it button again.

Now wait untill IFOEDIT creates a new Set of Vob'sand when it's finshed you will have the movie and only the ELVISH subtitles on it.

Now use Subrip to extract them and Encoe whatever way you where going to do.

By far the best way i found was to use DVD2SVCD, setup for DVD Encoding, and in the subtitles option put it to permanent, then the subtitles will appear only when they talk ELVISH.

Also with Disk 2 i found i did not have to do any of the above. i don't no why but i only had this problem with Disk 1.

  9. When I ripped LOTR SE I didn't rip any sub's and I got the elvish subs. Other people have posted that they have gotten the same results. I can;t tell you why others haven't but I know what I did.
