  1. I tried to encode this XVID with TMPGenc but about 40 mins in it froze, so I opened it in VirtualDub and it said " VIRTUALDUB has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI & WILL rewrite the audio header with standard CBR Values during process for better compatability. This may introduce up to 29176 ms of skew from video stream" I did install the XVid codec and Divx antifreeze so I was wondering what do I do know. I'm not really good with VirtualDub but if I have to, I'll learn.

Check to see if you have any bad frames in your XviD file using VirtualDub.

  4. The VBR audio warning from Vdub is unlikley to be thge cause of your encoder freezing, its most likley bad frames as puertorican138 said. However, this VBR audio will almost certainly cause audio sync problems when encoding to mpeg if you don't take certain steps first. Do a forum search for VBR Audio or something similiar for help with this.

  5. I scanned file with VDUB and it said 446 frames masked (3 frames bad, 443 frames good but undecodable)

  7. My movie file also freezes, but when I tried the method to look for the bad frames, all it does is crash VDub and the log remains empty? The movie I have is an XviD file. Does that have anything to do with it?

Use Virtual Dubb MP3 to scan it for errors. It tells you which ones are bad, and then cut them out.

  9. How do I cut them out? I downloaded VDUB MP3.

  11. I removed the bad frames, but when I open the file in VDUB it says VDUB has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI. Its says for compatibility to decompress the entire audio stream to an un-compressed WAV and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. Can someone please help, what programs do I need to use to do this and is there a page that describes how to do this. I really want to convert this file, it's Gangs of NY.

  12. ya i was having problems with these xvid files either with encodeing or if it dose encode the picture would freeze. so what i did was i use VirtualDub. loaded the video in to VirtualDub then removed the audio from the xvid. saved it as wav then with the video i removed that form the xvid also. by going to video and clicking on direct stream copy. now i ran TMPGEnc loaded up the sperate video and audio files and encoded them. so far i did 2 movies and they both have worked fine.
