Using XP Pro - new install. Tempgen says SVCDs (my files) are not supported. I looked at the "problem" area under conversions and it said I probably need Nimo (for example). I did that and everything worked fine until I udated WMP! The whole system (video) crashed. Nothing worked. I re-installed XP, etc. Now I am back to everything working except I can't still can't get Tempgen to open SVCD files. I did donwload Elecard MPEG2 decoder but that didn't work either. any help here, will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. The newer versions of TmpGenc will only work with certain mpeg-2 decoders. The one that comes with Power DVD is one of them. You can download a demo, install it and the uninstall and it leaves the mpeg-2 codec behind which is not time limited!

    Bugster,
Downloaded and installed. Same results. Question. Do I need to uninstall TempGen and reinstall it? I was pretty excited - for about 3 minutes!

  5. You shouldn't have to re-install Tmpgenc. You could try increasing the priority of the direct show filter. Under options, environmental setting, VFAP, right click the direct show entry and select higher. Repeat until it is at the top of the list.

Another option to open mpeg-2 files is to get the modded version of virtualdub that will open them. (look in the tools section). Use this to fraeserve your SVCD's to TmpGenc.

Ok, I went out and looked for the VirtualDubMod and found it. Before I download it, how do I use it in the context of my problem? What does it do for me? One thing I did not mention and maybe relvant is that I am using the PVR capture card set for MPEG2-SCVD-SP.

I appologize for for all the trouble but as you can tell, I don't have a clue about this business. When they (it) work as advetised, no problem but when they don't I'm lost. At this point I am wondering if installing the different codec programs have "stepped on themselves."

Anyway, if would tell me howq to use virtualudb with TempGen I would appreciate it.

Sorry, Type it should be frameserve.

    Use this guide https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm

You need the modded version of virtualdub as the regular version won't open mpeg-2 files. Just use the guide to geiv you the general method for frameserving but using your SVCD mpeg-2 instead of an avi.

Well, after trying everything I decided I would try Nemo again since it worked once. Did some very through reading before I installed it and made several discoveries. Basically Nemo seems to have everything which is good and bad. They warn about installing some of the files due to conflicts even within their own package. They offer all of them, I guess, to let the end user decide WHICH ones they will use. Anyway, I followed their guidance and it has worked ever since. WMP works fine and it's at series 9. Thanks for your input, it really helped.
