    Greetings all,

I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to de-cloak.

Due to a bad DVD ROM drive on my G4, I've taken my "Life Of Brian" DVD and made an image of it on my PowerBook G3 using OSEx. I then transfered it to my G4, mounted the image with Toast, dragged the mounted image into Forty-Two (v1.52) and selected the SVCD option.

When I got home, I only had one set of .bin/.cue files in the Burnwhatsinhere folder. The end result was perfect sync, etc...couldn't be happier. Of course, that was the first hour of the movie.

In the temp or output folder (can't remember exactly which) is the fully transcoded mpg file for the whole movie.

What can I do to easily split the movie and generate a .bin/.cue for the rest of the movie?

I'm guessing that the process wigged out after the first pair was generated.

Is there a way of manually kicking in the command (I'm not afraid of Terminal) that Forty-Two would normally do after it transcodes to the final mpeg file?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I've already tried doing this with ffmpegx, but w/o much luck.

Thanks to one and all, and especially to Kai and co. for their ass-kicking app!

What I use for this is FFmpegX.
It will let you split the mpeg into chunks and author it into bin/cue files too.
You can access this in the Tools section of FFmpegx.
    Hope this helps

    Okay, bignose!

If you are finding all the ffmpegX settings confusing (I know I do! ), another approach would be to use Gumby (available at http://gumby.misplacedmac.com/) to split the MPEG file and then use the second half of the process detailed in this thread (start with step 7 of the second procedure and substitute your MPEG file names for the file names used) to build and burn images with VCD Builder and Toast. You'll never actually see .bin/.cue files in this process.

I haven't tried the exact procedure I am suggesting, but it should work.

    Cheers,
Ross (no not that Ross )

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you... rossgard!!!

Your tips helped with a perfect burn!

Now if I could only firgure out how to use VCD Builder with the sequences and menus options, that would be great. The read me file which comes with VCD Builder has a lot to be desired. It looks like it has a lot of GREAT potential, but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know of a more detailed manual or FAQ for it?

Thanks again ross for your direction.

just to let you know, 42 is currently having problems with the creation of the 2nd or 3rd bin/cue files.

As you experienced, you only get the first one.

As you also did, you only just have to split the mpeg file and then package it as you did.

    MY QUESTION IS.................
How is it you were able to take the OSeX file and have forty two accept it?!?!?

how did you image it?!?!? I have several .vob's i would love to convert to svcd using 42 if you can help me out.
    Thanks

    Hi galactica,

Real easy actually. In OSEx, under the FMT dropdown, select DVD Image. When done, use Toast to mount the image (I believe Gumby can also do this).

At this point, just drag the mounted DVD image into the Forty-Two well and select your settings.

I have also had luck using DVDBackup for the extraction, then using Toast to create a DVD Image...which once mounted can be dragged in the well.

Let me know if you need more detailed info.
