I'm trying to convert my first avi movie to MPEG for VCD, and I am having the following problems:

No Sound- I can play the full avi on WMP 7.0 fine. But when I use TMPGEnc (tried version 12j and 12a) the audio is gone. I did convert a very small avi (402 KB) to MPG, and both the audio and video were fine, at 985 KB.

MPEG WAY too big- The avi I have (Memento) is about 700 MB and is 1:48:48 in length. Bitrate finder indicates that I can encode at 128 kbps audio and 1500 kbps video on two 80 minute CDs. This means that the resulting MPEG should be no larger than about 1400 MB. My first attempt went 20 hours and crashed at 4GB, due to FAT32 limitations. Since then, I have killed the process when I see the file growing over 2 GB.

I tried splitting the avi into three 37 minute segments, with VDub, but, only the first avi segment had decent audio. Second segment had audio for about one minute, then stopped; third segment had no audio at all.

I have tried to do some homework, from this site, before starting to whine about it, but I finally caved. If anyone knows what I might be doing wrong, I would be much obliged if you could throw me a bone.

Thanks
