  1. Hello!
Im trying to burn dvdr movies I´ve backed up myself using Instant Copy. I have my burner on Mac and thats where the problem comes.

As soon as I have burned the disc (VIDEO_TS folder 4.3gb big) it gets ruined in the end of the movie, the beggining with menus and the start of the movie is ok.
I got the same problem with a original DVD5 release not manipulated by me.
When the problems comes on my Mustek dvd player it freezes, gets pixelated and gets worse the longer I let it play.
Some discs wont even hook up on either PC or Mac if I try it there, some discs can be read but when I try use DVDdecryptor on it the app finds unreadble files.

Someone told me that this was a sign of bad media but I´ve tried different brands of dvdr media (Apple dvd-r and Infiniti dvd-r) with same result.
I have tried burning both 1x and 2x speed with same result. Ive tried burning on three different macs (Emac, Imac & Powermac G4) also with same result.

When I try burning on a Maxell DVDrw disc it seems to work. It also seems to work if I delete the menu and just keep the movie (on Apple dvd-r and Infiniti dvd-r media). Is it the media or the menu?

My backup works in both Win DVD, Power DVD, VLC and Apple DVD Player on Mac when I try them before burning.

This is giving me headache, please help me explain this.

    Regards / Ozone

When you try different media it works.

When you reduce the total size it works.

Some media has problems towards the outer edge of the disc. This is the most sensitve part of the dye. You can try keeping you projects at a lower size. Maybe 4.2 would work better.

Which Apple media do you have? PVC (Pioneer Video Corp), MXL (Maxell), or one of the other OEM manufactures that Apple uses?

It could also be your DVD Player. Try the disc on different players. Although if DVD Decrypter can't read the files, then it means there was a bad spot on the disc.

Does this error occur only at the end, or some where inbetween.

  3. I cant say that redusing size solves my problem, I tried burning a 3.7gb big disc. The original was a DVD5 and 3.7gb, I did nothinng except DVDdecryptor on it before burn but got the same prob even thou it wasnt as clear as with other bigger discs.

I dont know what brand the burner has but I believe its Pioneer or Sony.

I have tried my projects on Mustek, Pioneer and Sony DVD players with the same problem so it has to be the media.

Yes the problem is cooming only in the end of the project, the beggining is as it should be.

Doesnt it meen that if my projects works fine in WinDVD, PowerDVD and Apple DVD player before burn that the files are correct to start with?

I think it seems a bit weird if Apples media isnt good enough for their own burners.

Conclusion: I will buy me another media and try again.

Is there a media that generally is good quality you can recommend?

    Apple media is great.

Although different combinations can produce different results. Apple could just had a bad batch of media.

I was asking which Apple media you have, there are several manufactures that make Apple's media, all Apple does is slap their name on it. But the three I know of are good quality.

Usually if there is an authoring error it will be seen through out the disc. Most media errors occur at the end of the disc.

Your error is either a media error, or burning error. Try to not do anything while burning, and use 1x. Usually that isn't needed, but you never know. If this clears up the errors, then it's a problem with your burner and media selection, try a higher quality media (Mitsui).

If you asked me to refer media, one of the better brands is Apple! But just about any brand name disc is of higher quality. I've never had problems out of Verbatium, Taiyo Uden (same as Memorex), Pioneer (the PVC version), and Mitsui. Most of those run $2.50 - $5.00 in single disc quantities. I've had mixed results with some TDK (branded version, not the Princo imatations), and Maxell.

Ritek is one of the better generic discs that can be had for less than $1.00 each in hundred packs.

Have a look at the DVD Media section to the left for many comments on most of the media out there.

Since it played back in Power DVD, and Win DVD, one could assume (ass u me) it was authored correct. But these apps are also general purpose file players.

If your burning with a Mac, then you have a Pioneer burner. Could be an A03,A04,or A05.
